Quote from same faq, same section.
Do you see the pattern? Rog recommends what would sound best first.
And absolute last is the el cheapo option you recommend first.
There's a big difference between bullets ok for a monitor cab, and
bullets to use on top off a stack with 4-6 18"'s under them as sub plus
the rest of the stack.
They are more expensive for a reason. Because they sound better,
last longer, and you need less of them. And You'll find many people
recommend FANE bullets/Slots just behind JBL's.
So Finally, after I jack you up, and you then read Rog's faq, you finally say what you should have said in the first place. Reason for this, you often make ill advised suggestions before getting your facts straight. Experience, "PA Company owners", Quality sound owners and this website has shown me the way to build a PA rig is always buy the best you can afford, new or used. Not the cheapest you can find. This is why you often buy cheap cack, get dissappointed with it and often sell it at a loss.

well this is also a tweeter array post, couldnt the issues with sound reproduction using cheap drivers be solved by arraying them? if i put 4-8 apt80s in a box with a nicely angled front for dispersion and used that on top of each stack for highs, i betcha i could get great sound quality becasue id never have to run them at full blast. all id need is a decent EQ to account for any little spl qwirks they might have, right? oh yea... what would be good to put in the array in addition to the APT drivers? to handle somethign along the lines of 2k-5k hz. how about the beyma 6m180 from www.usspeaker.com ? |

I have some APT80s and they dont sound as nice as the APT150s. I
wouldent go for a horisontal array with them, you will proberbly get
loads of comb filtering, a vertical line of APT150s would proberbly be
better, they have 100 degree horisontal despertion anyway so theres no
need to array them horisontally. I think you would be better off
with some fane bullets anyway...

It isnt just frequency response squiggles, but the delays and resonant energy involved in the time domain which is almost never measured. |

what is this comb filtering, and why would it only happen horizantaly instead of vertically?... I cant build my whole soundsystem verticaly if im going to make some form of array. I suppose i could handle the horns being stacked vertically, but the 6.25" drivers i am going to have to angle slightly to the left and right of the apt 150 to get decent dispersion with upper mids. Delay though, i have no idea how to measure such a thing. Isnt it true that horns delay but bullets dont? If i jsut went with a bunch of the apt80s and a bunch of beyma 6m180s, i would imagine i could have nice midtops. i have absolutely no test equipment and a tiny budget so i cant really follow lots of the advice i get on this forum very well. If i did use a vertical array, however, would it be possible to use a horn like enclosure similar to the m102 to get better dispersion? i dont know a thing about calculating horns. |
