Yeah i'm gonna try and find one in the new year and do an A/B test with the CS1000x running one sub and one side of my RMX4050HD running another sub.

I love how people complains about 30+ years amplifiers performances, but may i ask when was the last time those amps being serviced?? i mean proper serviced..thermal paste changed, all the solderings remade, recaped, recalibrated, dust and crap cleaned and all parts checked?? well for sure..never...so don't complain about poor performance then,i cannot drive my CS1000X in thermal cut out even if i drive him short lol,but that amp was fully restored, not ,,serviced'' by some building site labourer with a dust blower after watching a youtube video how to do it in his spare time, most of people want cheap and good, well doesn't work like that guys, expecially when you deal with 10+ years old amps...not to mention 30+ years old...i don't even plug an amp that old in socket before i do a full restore to it,so stop blameing old amps performances as is not the case,if an amp is working, doesn't means is performing,so first make sure the amp you blame being crap is in perfect working condition,if your CS1000X cuts out ofcourse the thermal paste is gone from the outputs, loads of crap in the tunnel ventilation, and for sure from 12 outputs per ch maybe just 6-7 of them are still doing there job while the rest are just hanging there for decor because of cold joints,if all the 12 outputs per ch are proper working and cooled there's no way in this world to get a thermal cut-out not even if you push it in heavy 2R per ch all night long,as these amps are proper overengineered and plenty of power reserve in those output stages,750w output power in 2R load is nothing from 12 MJ15024/MJ15025 outputs,so you need to know first what amplifier you have and what should be capabile of,and if is not..then my friend..you got a problem with it and needs repairs.

Sounds like djkeets problems are HIS eqpt, not a Peavey problem.
And yeah, mate, most of us have owned some . |

The cs800x has much more mid clarity than the 1000 for the .5db difference or less. The double slew on a bridged 1000 vs a stereo 4050 is not a really fair test. Awesome amps, 10 years ago could be snapped up for £50 in good condition

Or try adding a couple more speakers to the same load at 10-15 ohm, see if it's louder in db

"i don't even plug an amp that old in socket before i do a full restore to it" Or use something like this:- 200W incandescent in series with power. I also have a "bigger" jobbie with a 300W halogen in the workshop. If I have to plug in anything unknown or possible dodgy, I'll use these to avoid unexpected smoke & tears. Works really well. |

Indeed the old method with incandescent light bulb works well,i did use it long time ago,but now i ran them thru a power supply stabilizer very sensitive,so any problem with the amplifier the power supply will trip off in no time, never had a problem with this method so far :) also i still have somewhere the light bulb just in case

Yes - I've also considered using a variac, but not too sure how well that would work with some of the more modern SMPSU's. I just like the simplicity of the light bulb thing. Edited by Earplug - 24 January 2023 at 1:45pm |

To be honest i run far away from smps's,just hate them, not suitabile for PA,we all know that smps tech is old as hell...not something new at all...smps where in amps even in 1980's...but nowdays we need 20kw of power to manage 100 ppl in a 40mp square place...i prefer to buy or build expensive speakers with high spl and use nice AB power amplifiers up to 3kw rather than buy 20kw power amplifier and two tones of useless 70db/1w/1m speakers so no smps's for me

Yes - but I can't always choose what comes in for repair. Most things now have switched PSU's. Edited by Earplug - 24 January 2023 at 3:45pm |
