hey everyone,
I'm looking to build a pair of mid-tops and at my disposal i have a pair of 18sound 12nd930 drivers and a pair of Beyma 6CX200FE drivers. These will be driven alongside a pair of TH18 tapped horns. My Goals are: A compact and as lightweight as possible cab Freq response of 80-100hz upwards. What kind of designs what you guys suggest? I've been looking at the Orbit 4s by Turbosound but unfortunately James won't supply them without the polyurea finish which is no good to me as i'll be wrapping them. Many thanks for any comments. Sal

Haha sorry soundgear.
Spoke to James but as he manufacters them in batches, it's not viable for him to do what I need which is fair enough

that beyma 6cx200fe is only good for about 117 dB max spl. don't think you an combine it with the 12" in a useful way in the same box. Would probably make most sense to just build a small box for it alone. I was having a quick peek at beymas range to see if there is any 6" midwoofer that would make sense as a support to double and beef up the low mids, but didn't find anything with matching TS parameters.
You probably want to find a reflex alignment for it, but depending on your desired SPL and if you cross over high enough you might also get away with a closed box, provided it doesn't create too big of a hump. Definitely simulate and verify in winisd first.

Hmm I didn't really think about spl when I bought those drivers but that's a fairly weak Coax.
I wanna aim for 130s peak spl
Will need to step up to 8 or even 10" Coax to go with the 12" driver then. Anyone got any plans they could share of any good tops? I'm gutted about the orbit 4s! |

yeah i think i might bite the bullet and sand it off but it won't be easy getting it all same level flat! but might be less hassle than designing a new pair!

Maybe state your goals more clearly?
1) you want tops to use with your th18, without kick bins? 2) cross over 80-100hz 3)130 db ?? 4) as small as possible? 5)venue size? 6) amount of audience? If you are serious about 130db, forget about using those 6cx200fe |

1) Sorry forgot to mention i have kick bins already but won't always need them. 2) I'd like the tops to be able to fill in the gap of the kick bins when i don't use the kick bins in terms of Freq response, hence 80-100hz. I didn't mention a crossover of 80-100hz though.... 3) Although i may not need 130db, I love the headroom 4) I don't want them bigger than the orbit 4s 5) Audience sizes are never bigger than 400 I already mentioned i won't be using the 6CX200FE drivers Hope that clears things up

You seem pretty keen on the orbits. Were you asking for a different finish on the cabs or supplied unfinished so you could get your own finish applied?

i am very keen but i'm also wary of sanding perfectly good cabs and ruining them!
I need them unfinished as i'll be wrapping them in a custom colour, along with my Th18s. I won't be able to wrap over the polyurea coating as it's textured.
