Hi All,

After a weekend of testing I feel I want to do some more... I'm sure I can get a better response from the bokes... and it will also help for setting up the whole thing.

To do this I need a USB pre-amp with phantom power (I have already obtained the software).

I have had a look around and it looks like the one Rog was using is no longer sold.. so I found this : http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/7475

Is that a good one? will this later model do the same job? is there a better alternative?

Cheers,

Adam.

Well the specs look fine, what more could you want? 20hz-20khz +-0.1dB, 110dB S/N ratio.

Yes that preamp look fine Adam.

The next stage up from a laptop with preamp is to use a system with dedicated hardware. Then you can make measurments from 5Hz to over 100KHz. Dosen't have to cost that much either. Clio can come in at around 800 quid and LMS for around 1200 quid. A good TEF or Ease machine like the one I used at the weekend is going to start costing 10's of thousdands of pounds though.

The ECM8000 mic is ok for RTA setups. Again nice things cost money, so allow around 3000 quid for a B & K.

Hi Rog,

Cheers for that.

I have a fairly nice laptop with Easera 1.1 and a berry ECM8000, so it's just the pre-amp and a mic stand... do I need anything else?

Have been playing with easera.. great bit of kit, very complicated but I'm sure I can get to grips with it.. love the waterfalls etc.

Cheers again, learnt so much from you in a very short amount of time.

Adam.

£3000 for a B&K?!?

They're cheaper than than nowadays mate.

I don't think SIM II costs that much on the secondhand market, couple of grand.
