Depends on the cabinet and the alignment to the other boxes in the system.

personal preference, play with the settings one day and hear what sounds better.
48db for HPF on the bass for me. |

Boxes are WSX copies on subs, dual 18 reflexes on kick, omnitop12's on tops. Thank you.

my subs have a recommendation of 12db hipass,so depends on the box.
different crossover types and slopes also have different advantages and disadvantages. |

Ive read that "right" crossover looses the sound source so that you cant tell exactly from which speaker the sound is coming. If that makes sense to you

Except that isn't really right or true. You use the correct slopes and delay settings for each passband to allow the different components and boxes to be as close to in phase and of equal magnitude (-6dB ideally) at the acoustic crossover point.
Or at that's the aim, in reality it isn't always possible. I'm afraid nobody can tell you the settings unless they have exactly the same boxes with the same components inside, you can guess but that's all it really is, a guess. Measurement is the correct way. Edited by toastyghost - 29 October 2015 at 9:10pm |

You can download winisd to simulate your box/driver combo there and play around with different filters and see how they affect the xmax, group delay and stuff.

good article here: ideally you would choose slopes that give a constant phase difference (parallel slope) between the two bands when combined with the phase response of the loudspeakers. In practice if medium to high order slopes are used, the crossover region is very narrow and it is sufficient just to get the drivers in phase at the crossover point. lower order slopes have better transient response but high order slopes are better at eliminating out-of-band distortion. original question was 48dB or 24dB. 24dB probably does a good enough job of reducing out-of-band frequencies so 48dB is overkill and degrades the transient response unnecessarily.

This... Type of slope is just as important. |

Bessel and Linkwitz-Riley supposedly have less over-shoot and ringing than Butterworth
