Absolutely. The amount of uv disinfecting lamps sold post Covid rocketed, we stocked them in an effort to get events moving, and have a pile on the shelf. Had to do an online safety course before the supplier (Phillips / signify) would sell them to us. As the article mentions they have been used in error before. Even the 400w discharge uv cannons that are sold for nightclub use have an element of harmful uv and have a recommended exposure distance. Led produced UV light rarely get to the harmful wavelengths though.

As James has said, absolutely…
If the lights are emitting wavelengths shorter than about 400nm (UV-A, UV-B and UV-C) at high enough intensity it’s entirely possible…. UV-A (320-400nm AKA Blacklight) represents up to 95% of the UV radiation reaching the earths surface, and low exposure is normally OK, however high exposure is what makes your skin age, causes sun burn, and can cause cataracts…. Traditional “Disco black-lighting“ should be in the 365 to 400nm range.

On the plus side the audience would be nicely sanitized!!

Edit...

Big Clive has just posted a new video about Bored Ape incident:

mad. was curious. haven't really used UV myself since the 90s. good to know with a few minimal bits of led UV should be nothing to worry about.

Funnily enough, I was watching the video earlier today. Harks back to the stupid Donald Trump comments about injecting bleach and using UVC against COVID19. Rather amusing that going for a piss at a show can cause such eye problems - it's usually just the smell and the look of the toilets that causes problems. I love UV!!
For sidefills, can we have two enormous things of a type that might be venerated as Gods by the inhabitants of Easter Island, capable of reaching volumes that would make Beelzebub soil his pants.

I knew a dj that fitted a UV tube in a club just in front of his decks and ended up in hospital...something to do with your eyes not being able to focus on the lamp.....
