My apologies for the late arrival last night guys, but boy it was worth the long drive from West London!

I can only echo what's already been said. I was shocked at how well Shortmans mini-scoop performed, especially with the V18-1200 but i liked the sound of the B-line.

It would be interesting to hear four RX18/1850's Vs Shortman/V18-1200's, because although the Void handles more power, i noticed at around 40Hz the 1850 was working alot less for more or less the same output.

Tekasis, i cant remember how the Mr Ultimate scoop sounded but your Blockboard Dinasour sounded criss bredrin!!

Respect.

Hitting home shores the 26th... be back 2 months so if it can happen in that time I'll do everything in my power to make it down...
Seeing the pics of that test session made me realise how much I need to be around some sound kit withn like minded folks talking systems...

Interesting to see the verdicts.. as the V1200 seems to like a bigger chamber it remains to be seen if it will still do the bis in a big stack... tighter chambered scoops/lower VAS drivers tend to stack up better, larger chamber/higher VAS tends to get a bit loose in big stacks..

Great test guys, thank you.

The scoop I designed for Stone Love has a mid sized front chamber, didn't try the V18-1200 is a very large front chamber, but pleased to see it works well in one too.

It would have been nice to have a rating of each driven in each sccop. So just play say Shortmans full scoop with all the drivers and write down your comments on how each driver differed. I know you did do this and had to to see which combinations worked the best, but still would be nice to have a detailed account of how the different drivers sounded in the same sccop and also how the different scoops sounded to each other.

I said it in another post, but I should have sent you up an Invinite 8 V2 to play with. Just forgot sorry. There's stock in the UK right now as well. I think another test needed to be done, and that was how well the driver performs with 2000 watts going into it and after a 4 hour beating. Many in your test I don't think would have survied that kind of test. Yes we all now the 1850 would still be going, but I think you would really start to see the benifits of the V18-1200 when its in real world condidtions. Real world to me is with over 1200 watts per driver and playing for many hours. Thats how drivers get used and I designed the V18-1200 to really come alive when the situation its under starts getting abusive. Time will tell, but there are already a lot of V18-1200's out there getting canned within an inch of there life everynight and there have been no problems yet.

Thanks again for a great test.

Rog.

Levyte quote....The V18-1200 (large Vas) did not like ASS RX18's small chamber.

tek quote.....

Respect due Levy for teaching me & my mates how the Vas is so important (along with other parameters too) but what really opened our eyes to it is the way the v18-1200 sounded in the RX18. That really shocked us.

That's exactly how the JBL drivers that came in the RX18 out of Hammersmith Palais sounded in them.

I'm confused
you liked it? or you didn't like it?

I'm confussed about the amp used for the test.

I can't find a Peavey GPS 1700. I can see a GPS 3400 which is 1700 watts into 4 ohms per side.

If you did use the GPS 3400, then it put out 775 watts into 8 ohms per side. I think you have an even bigger shock coming when you hear the V18-1200 with some real power going in.

Your right there with my mix-up of the model of the amp, but wrong about the power delivery.

It didn't like it - It actually hated it.

Can you imagine someone who has no idea about this kind of stuff, who goes onto a shop/warehouse, see's the RX18 & the v18-1200 glowing at them, & no matter what you tell them, they're just adamant that they want that particular combination.
Then they go into a gig with say 6 of these, then a next guy turns up with say 4 of Shortmans/Tonys minis loaded with any 18'' driver & sounding better than the 6, the geezer must fell sick.

To prove it wasn't a good match, when we first loaded it & heard it, I just knew it had to be the driver, upon remembering what I'd previously heard in my back yard previously with the v18-1000 in there. (Levy's favourite Combination - Who kept on saying "Let me hear it again & again" ) I don't wrong him, serious combination)

So as I had a spare one (v18-1000) in the van, I got it & put it in the RX18, then you instantly heard the difference. The V18-1200 then ended up in Shortmans cab.

I mentioned many times before, I've never heard the Super-Scooper loaded with either the V18-1000 or PD1850, (I've read it's a good combo) only heard it with the PD186's in a multiple of 4. But as we didn't have one (Super-Scooper), we couldn't compare it.

It has a similar small chamber to the RX18 so shouldn't they sound the same or very similar ? Rog ?

Why am I wrong about the power delivery.

I said that you had one driver and that it would get 775 watts. You post the specs and it says that that amp puts out 775 watts into 8 ohms, but you say I'm wrong. Where did I go wrong.

Don't know anything about the chamber size of the RX18, so can't say if its the same as the super scooper or what will work best in what.

OK, I don't know how big the front chamber on the RX 18 is, but the chamber size of the super scooper is 44 litres. If you measure it its 55 litres, but drivers like the 1850 or V18's occupy about 11 litres, so its 55 litres minus the driver which equals 44 litres. Thats the number you would use if doing a computer sim etc.

Intestingly, I have also just measured the front chamber on the Stone Love scoop, which I'll call the SL scoop from now on. The SL scoops front chmaber is 46 litres, so only 2 litres more than a super scooper. Again thats 46 litres minus the 11 for the driver.

The V18-1200 was the driver that sounded the best in terms of output, power handling and sound quality when used in the SL scoop. So you say it didn't sound good in a small sized chamber, but if you heard one in an SL scoop I think you would change your mind. Maybe there is something else going on with the SL scoop that makes the driver think the chamber is bigger. The first bend from the throat is a curve and maybe that is effecting where the throat starts. But what ever happens I don't think you can say or right off the V18-1200 in small sized scoop chambers. A lot more testing needs to be done.

Another point is this. Its really great that you lot are doing all these tests and raising the bar for the whole roots scene, but I'm not sure that everyone needs or wants to instantly know what the best combination is. It was always down to the soundman doing his own experimention then using what he found to compeate with the next sound. Kind of takes the fun out to know that if you use this scoop with this driver you too can sound like everyone else.

Just a thought........

It should do Mykey according to the sims I've done with cabs like the Hog Sub.

I've also tried it in subs like the Impulse 8i, which are quite like your Dubsusb and they make a big sound.
