So the first set of valves from my mate have turned up.  Unfortunately these appear to be power, RF and IF valves, still boxed though.  The other valves are unboxed but might well be audio (listing later).
BNIB Valves:

1 x Mazda A.C./V.P.1 (priced at 12/6!!!)
5 x Mullard 85A1
1 x Mullard EQ80
1 x Mullard DCC90
5 x Brimar 12AU7

Now this one is very interesting:

1 x Staticon type C933 (some kind of cathode vintage TV camera thing)

Also some wierd variable pot things?:

1 x Eddystone type 476
1 x Eddystone type 580
1 x Eddystone type 582
1 x Eddystone type 583

Pictures to come, and further listings to come.
If anything loks interesting or useful give me a shout or its going on ebay.

You can use the Brimar 12AU7's for audio.  They're a lower gain, higher current valve compared with the 12AX7.  You could use them for things like a phase splitter probably.

+1,also make good cathode followers which come in handy for drive stages and active crossovers. Let us know how much he wants for them Mr Bush.

Off the top of my head (but I have a library of valve data books if any obscure ones turn up):

The AC/VP1 is an old 1930's radio valve
85A1 is a voltage regulator, 85 Volts (a gas discharge lamp that works like a zener diode)
EQ80 is surely a misprint, do you mean an EC80?   CORRECTION  a bit unusual, very hard to find, and the same as a 6BE7
DCC90 will be a double triode with a 3V/1.5V heater, probably for an old battery powered  radio
12AU7 is an audio triode same as an ECC82, often used in phase splitters for audio amps.

Are the Eddystone things variable capacitors (one set of moving plates and another set of fixed plates?

With most European valves the numbers and letters actually indicate what type of valve they are, if you know the code.

Most valves are not worth much, 50p - £1 each. But a few types are very valuable because they have specialist applications and are no longer manufactured.

Burningbush
Showing my age here.....

Some additional info on your valves:

The Mazda A.C./V.P.1 is an RF/IF Pentode
The 85A1 is a neon voltage regulator at 125volts
The EQ80 is used in FM Radio detector circuits
The DCC90 is an RF double triode for battery operation up to 40 MHz
The 12AU7 is a double triode with series/parallel heaters which is a direct replacement for the ECC82 - Audio uses as Ceharden describes.

These and others are listed in the AVO Valve Data Manual which is available from:

http://frank.pocnet.net/instruments/AVO/HR/ValveTesters/valvedata/laatste_editie/ValveDataManual11.pdf

... for those of you who didn't keep the manual from your Valve Tester!

So only the 85A1 and 12AU7's of real interest for Audio, unless someone wants to build an AM/FM tuner perhaps?

12/6 was expensive at the time!

Mik

Eddystone things are capacitors, thanks Madboffin.
Here is a link to the Staticon camera pick up tube:
Have to post a picture of it, very strange looking.
Will post up more valves as I get them, can't see them going for any more than £1 - £4 each.

Eddystone variable capacitors:

476: Split stator, 15pF + 15pF, with 0.020" air gap
583: Split stator, 25pF + 25pF, with 0.020" air gap

580: Single 12.5pF, with 0.062" air gap
582: Single 60pF, with 0.020" air gap

Typically used in old VHF radio equipment (such as 1960's mobile radio telephones)

Maybe Brian would like it for his museum?
