Drivers get shipped all over the world. Precision Devices PD1850 and Fane Colossus 18XB (when they were built in the UK) are also popular in Italy, as well as numerous other European Countries. There is a lot of overlap of product between countries now.

Yup, UK & Italy must be the top-manufactures, china too, but not compared to population I guess!

@Preconditioning: Often people run them gently at the beginning or 50% power, to have the surrounds & spiders stretched out. Me, I'm crazy, full power 10k & pulling the wall plug straight out of the blue, for some reason I just can't fry my system, which is good, I just keep checking:-)

I would guess it's hard for the cone to reach xmax with all new surrounds, then the lost power will be heat. But it takes quite a while to heat up that void magnet! Keep off clipping.

You should get a proper filter with lowcut to use the power where it makes sense, delay to align with other systems like this club & limiter to keep your amps from clipping.

UK manufacturing isnt quite what it used to be, there has been a general shift of cheaper products being made in China now. Precision Devices are one of the few british built speakers still going. Fane is now only partially built in the UK, with just a handful of the top of the range Fane drivers still made here.

Void is UK designed, but the driver is not UK built as far as I am aware, fairly sure they are made in a secret location in the far east to Void's specifications.

A sperate limiter is always better, I always use a master limiter before the xover with exit limiters.

Still I would suggest you to buy a decent dsp, the behringer dcs 2496 works very well, I normally avoid behringer, except for this xover and their cable tester:-) The dsp has a good sound quality & more settings than the dbx

Hello again guys,as promised i had a bit of time to upload my X1 building photos. They are not so many because i was so eager to build it faster and did not pay much attention on making photos.
I fired it up yesterday night at a local club and it was devastating with 1k watt in it.As a small question does the speaker make some strange smell the first time we use it? Because at the beginning after 20 minutes some strange smell like hot wirewound(hope the spelling is write) come out of it,then slowly it dissapeared.
Please don't hesitate to comment on photos.

No not good imho you have drive it too hard , also The smell of burning comes from the enamel coating on the wire wrapped around the former (yeah we all know that distinctive smell, you can smell it a mile offSmile), when a speaker starts to be over driven this melts first causing some short circuits and weakening the bond between the wire and the former. When it gets even hotter the former starts to expand and leads to a blown VC...

not good man...

ive learnt to hard way over the years too...

Burning smells are never good, generally a bad sign. If the smell went away, and the driver is working, it is possible there was a tiny amount of residue on the voice coil which burnt off on first use.

Its generally a good idea to run drivers in gently in a controlled enviroment, not at a gig, and keep an eye on power levels, cone excursion, etc on their first use. Jumping straight in and driving them hard does open up the possibilities of things going wrong.

** HOPEFULLY ** you havent done any damage, before you use it again I would strongly recommend checking your limiters, high pass filter setting, etc to make sure you are keeping the driver within safe working parameters.

The driver worked good all night up to 4 AM in the morning, the smell wasn't so dense,it was just a bit then disapeared. It is still working good,i inspected the cone by hand to see it is broken without opening the cab and it seems all good.I have no high pass filter, just the low pas at 62.5Hz from an analogic crossover, and no limiter yet.We used it all night without going into clipping by just looking to the amp.Next thing to buy on my priority list is the limiter.

Ahem... LOL

Wouldn't be suprised if V18-1000s are now actually better speakers than PD1850s.
