Spotted this bit of nostalgia on ebay, not mine, but may interest some of the bottle junkies....?

The amp appears to be similar to a Vortexion Wimbledon/Super 50 - links to info here (bottom left of page): http://www.ferrographworld.com/Vortexion.html. There is also a post in the amp forum, I believe from about a couple of years back about this amp - the same case with different controls etc was used over a long period by Vortexion (financial canniness on their part) so it is quite difficult to know exactly which age/version of the amp this is.
![]() Apparently, these amps were intended for PA & factory use and originally had one gram, one tuner and one mic input (to announce the tea break). However, according to a a post on the Vintage Amp forum, Dave Reeves of HiWatt learned his trade there and so, the amp I can understand - they are very collectable - but who on earth would want those speakers? Probably full range (dual cone) drivers with no bottom end or top end & fuzzy mid range. Still, if they were really well made (I doubt it somehow) I suppose you could load them with some semi-decent drivers but it would hardly be worth the trouble for a 50 watt mono system. For sidefills, can we have two enormous things of a type that might be venerated as Gods by the inhabitants of Easter Island, capable of reaching volumes that would make Beelzebub soil his pants.

Jassy, I think that this would be one for the Museum, perhaps next to a field telephone. Nice bit of info from the link.

Seller says in the listing "from a 1970's disco".I would have thought they were earlier than that, more like 1950-60's?

I reckon given a good service the amp would sound good. Id have the heaters converted to D.C. so theres hardly any hum.

Vortexion Amps, like the one pictured, were used on Fun Fairs a great deal, until Transistorised amps took over from the mids 70's onwards, they were flippin heavy too, if I remember right.
