this is nothing new at all. a friend of mine probably still has a big pair of carpeted speakers she bought from a van in the mid 90s. sold as studio quality monitors etc.

Actually, thinking about it - just run it through a white-van stereo system. |

We have had them around here for years. Memory foam matresses that turn out to be anything but, are the latest craze. Flat screen TV for next to nowt, in a flashy box. Then the box you actually get is full of bricks. Box of 400 fags, top two packets contain cigarettes, and the rest stuffed with newspaper. Years ago, some gullible type bought a telly from some blokes who rocked up at a building site. It all looked good, and the box did actually contain a TV, but when he plugged it in, nowt happened. Turned out just to be the tube in the tv case, and nothing else. No circuit boards, tuner, nothing. The rest of the building site got some mileage out of that one!
Having had two vans stolen over the years, both with equipment and tools inside, I never buy anything from road side vans or blokes in the pub. With or without dags.

Another variation :- Outside Stratford computer fair - must be 15 years ago or more .... Couple of em selling "laptops" out of the back of a car. They show you a prefectly OK real laptop - take it out of the bag, switch it on and show it booting etc. Then after cash has changed hands - thay hand over a laptop bag - which turns out to contain a couple of 2l botles of water. Pure sleight of hand method on that one - they're pretty damn good at it .... guessing they just distract you for a second or two, and thats enough.
