So....... I have a single RCF L15P200ak and 300W amp power (QSC 1200 bridged, 300 RMS with 2 dB headroom according to manual). I'm thinking about building a micro rig based on this.

What kind of design would people suggest to get the most out of this driver (with the available amp power)?

would be nice to reach down to at least 40 Hz since I like my dub/roots reggae Big smile

According to WINISD 120l reflex tuned to 35 Hz would yield 118 dB SPL down to 38 Hz with 300 W input.

I was wondering if the L15P200ak could work in a Tham15, but IIRC the THAM has a cutoff around 50Hz?

If the RCF yields 5 - 6 dB more output in the THAM15 above 50 Hz (as with TBX, 99 dB sens.)  it might be worth the increase in size (120 L reflex VS THAM15 187 L).

To get flat to 40 Hz at lower maximum volume I could still drop the sub gain by 6 dB and do a corresponding narrow boost between 40 and 50 Hz.

Any other contenders? Cubo? Bandpass?

My money would be on cubo. It's a 40 HZ up design & with only 300w available, you can mount the driver magnet in or out, to get the right trade off between sensitivity and bandwidth. THAM 15 is a 30Hz up cab, but is a bit driver fussy, compared with cubo, especially as there are 3 different cubo designs for 15".
Nothing is foolproof because fools are so ingenious

I have heard it (the old one) in a bad jbl scoop copy. Did sound kind of sweet, lower and louder then eminence kappa 15LF but gets spank of high bl drivers. Reflex is what it is design for.

thank you for sharing that story. It's not hard to sound better than Kappa 15LF though in a scoop. We swapped the 2220s in original double 15" scoops for kappa 15LF once just to see if they worked. The Kappas sounded like wet paper towels compared to the 2220s that started to sing and "pump bass" with 100W...... LOL

Why not look at simming a bandpass like the x1, with only 300w available i would have thought youd want as efficient as possible.

Keep it simple surely applies here. Anything else other than a single 15" bass reflex design probably wont give you the results you are looking for.
Bandpass will decrease bandwidth and sound quality, cubo i am not a fanof at all and any horn design will never give you the high efficiency at low frequencies.
You have the speaker, build something simple that will allow you to expand in the future. Bass reflex is the easiest, just build that.
Best regards,
Teun.

Yea if you can achieve 118dB at 38hz with a 120L reflex i'd just go with that. I could only get an extra 4/5dB at 38hz @300w with a 180L bandpass in hornresp.

Not really worth it if your gunning for a micro rig.

Plus if you want to rag it, you can just bridge the QSC and use that 9.8MM xmax to its full potential ;)

yeah, the 300 W are continuous bridged, according to manual with 2 - 2,5 dB dynamic headroom Tongue

Hi. You can use L15P200AK in tham 15, goes lower than simulated, last time i forgot crossover on 30HZ lr24 and have big surprise :) This with about 800W in driver. This is video with 6 of them, but think its crossover on 35 or 38.
