Mykey, don't read the following, it will have you reaching for your Ak-47. @Tekasis, even more reason why we need to logically calculate largest rear chamber size that won't substantially reduce SPL. Or we could use guestimation, and increase the depth of the box, so there is increased distance between front baffle and rear panel (without changing rear horn path!?), until we hit a sub bass/SPL sweetspot. Then y not extend the front of the box which means you wont be troubling the rear chambers, therefore not affecting the sound.

What about extending the front of the box & tilting the driver like the MicroScoop (ES-15BLH) ?

Thats exactly what I meant. Increase the distance between front baffle (which driver is attached to), and the rear panel which is immediately behind the driver. From what I have seen in Winisd, this extends low freq response, but eats Xmax at high input power; Which is why I was interested in High Xmax drivers like 1850,V18. Maybe I am incorrect when I refer to rear chamber as the area between rear of the driver and the rear panel. |

I agree Sunil, but I still think it depends on what you want at the end of the day.
Either scoops that throw further, or scoops which play a bit lower, or both.
Was talking to Shortman the other day about this similar subject, & he just asks, how far do you want them throw ? As far as he's concerned, his scoops throw far enough & plays heavier than super scoopers.
If he decides on having a pre-amp party, whcih mskeete mentioned, you'll hear for you self, including his mini-scoops.
When I see various sound systems string up mainly in Brixton Rec or Stratford Rex, & check each section (stack) in turn, when you hear one stack, especially Iration Steppas sound, you have to stop & think to yourself, would you really need it to be throwing any further, as it's so deep everywhere in the hall, & reaching the far end of the hall.

Right then. Well as long as the depth in the sound is there, ill be happy.
For a house, throw isnt really important but for a hall it is. I dont know of any other scoop that can go as deep as shortmans and throw as far.

Nice.. But even if we came up with Superscooper mods that "only" matched Shortman's scoop, that would mean freely available plans for a dangerous sub cab, that Joe public could build, instead of paying lots of dosh for labour costs. One of the reasons this site and forum exists. Edited by levyte357 - 02 January 2007 at 9:29am |

i know. lol. personally i think it all happens with trial and error. you build something. it doesnt work out, you modify it and build again. till you get it right. then you release it.

MDF / Chip board ain't too expensive, so if what you build ain't right & don't work out, it won't cost you too much if it ends up being dumped.

You don't need a full scoop in a house Sunil, a mini scoop is sufficient.
I once loaded a scoop built by Mr Dubz with a V18-1000 when I first ordered our first dozen from PAP, & tested one with a good amount of power, & the neighbours in houses across the street were complaining.
I think ASS scoops will give Shortmans scoop trouble.
