right, we use a bt homehub2 with a combination of N&G-type kit, i normally get a nice strong connection on my pc (Nadaptor) but have noticed every time my brother starts using his iphone on the wifi the connection grinds to a halt.
now i remember reading somewhere the slowest piece of kit on the WIFI can slow the entire network down regardless of bandwidth? Is this whats going on? Is there any way to remidy this? for the moment ive banned his phone off the network because its pissing me off |

just speedchecked it - 15.1mb/s download, 1.2mb/s upload when im the only one connected wirelessely, not an ADSL bandwidth issue then....
with iphone, 1.2mb/s download, 0.2mb/s upload.... |

Close all the apps on the phone, reconnect. Still an issue?
The phone should have little effect really, it's probably app updates or 1 app on the phone hogging the bandwidth. |

Exactly, it has no idea how to co-exist, it wants data and will get it if it has access.
Some iPhone apps are pretty hungry. The only way to sort this is with a good router that allows you to prioritise or balance the bandwidth used by each device. |

yeah its been sorted now, the router had an option in the service menu to associate the mac address of the phone into an 'iphone' profile, which seems to have tamed things back to normal.
cheers for the help adam, must catchup sometime if you are about Frome again? im floating about in and out until september now. |

No worries.
Yea man, be good to catch up, not living in Frome (out in the sticks now near Shepton) but usually floating around the area. |

If you are connecting at "N" speeds and another device connects at "G" speeds, it would slow the whole network down to the "G" speed. I am not so sure you would notice a huge difference though.
