So basically you just added bracing and fiddled the rear chamber volume a bit.. Wonder if it will iron out the probs Walt encountered. They're going to be some heavy cabs with all that bracing.
Keep us posted..

hey, unfortunately I got one dimension wrong early on so I had to fudge the dimensioned drawing. It looks right but I'll have to redo the bracing and all the mitred pieces in order for you to accurately get angles and dimensions off the file.
Will be done later today and I'll host it all as a zip file on megaupload or similar so that you can download in your own time. Amazingly my girlfriend is going to get all the pieces for 3 or 4 of them cut up (including mitres) free in her workshop so I might make a start earlier than planned. |

Here's the redone drawing, the dimesions are likely to be exactly what I will be building to start with. I'm going to attempt to work out hornresp and check that my small changes wont mess things up too much. The handle cutouts are for the following adam hall handle:
http://www.adamhall.com/uk/index.php?cccpage=sysshop_27&set_product_id=534&set_katnav=25 The two handles that are further apart will probably be problematic so I might leave them out, the left one on the drawing may foul on the driver and the right one may foul on the horn flare http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/6329/assem1withbothsideswq2.jpghttp://img236.imageshack.us/img236/3278/assem1withbothsides2ot3.jpghttp://img309.imageshack.us/img309/2995/dimensions1il9.jpg here's the uploaded zip file with all the solidworks parts and assemblies: http://www.filefactory.com/file/f0e911/ |

I have now made a cut-list if anyone is actually interested in building one. You'd be better off using the original plan though as, despite my modifications being small, they might make it sound awfull.

Problem was walt said it sounded not so good, if not awful, before.. thoght the idea of the mods was to sort that? And what original plan-didn't think Walt ever put up any dimensions for the box..
Got the zipfile now-though I won't personally be able to build anything for some time- thanks for your work on this Bio..

the original plan is on page 2 of the thread. Accroding to walt the resonances were a combination of standing waves and panel resonances and a discussion (in dutch) on iven's forum specifies that the resonances were at a very narrow bandwidth centred around 230Hz. The Bracing I have specced not only reduces resonances (it's some fairly over the top bracing) but should also brake up standing waves a little. I'm no speaker designer but there is nothing else around so I'll give this plan a go. Most of my modifications (barring the bracing) are to allow better stacking for me and to keep geometry the same while using 18mm and not 15mm ply.
I'm using an XTA DP226 crossover so at worst I can just use a parametric with narrow Q to dampen any seriously resonant frequencies. Edited by biotec - 03 December 2006 at 12:31pm |
