Hello everyone, Since the question comes up often I decided to post the Hornresp parameters of the Punisher loaded with the Ciare 12.00SW and P Audio SD-12 drivers... I recently drafted the Punisher in AutoCAD so I could get exact measurements for the calculations… I have also corresponded with David McBean on numerous occasions in regards to the proper usage of his Hornresp program for modeling horns… David,...I thank you very much for your patience and for answering my questions!... If you want to know if a particular driver will work in the Punisher I recommend that you download David’s Hornresp program and enter the parameters as illustrated below with exception to those specific to the driver… Note that the latest version calculates and displays the compression ratio as you mouse-over either S1 (the cross section volume cm3 of the first horn section) or SD (surface area cm2 of the cone)… If you look at the information box at the bottom of the illustrations below you will see the compression ratios… Be advised the compression ratio is a key factor in regards to the driver's survival... For you sticklers: I added the volume of the baffle cut-out to the VTC (volume throat chamber) parameter by using the formula (3.14 Pi X the cutout diameter ^squared X 15mm /4)… Punisher parameters with Ciare 12.00SW
Punisher parameters with P Audio SD-12

Cheers for posting this
Would the higher compression ratio for the sd12 suggest higher sensitivity, but possibly(?) lower max spl and more stress on the cone?
I guess the problem is the new sd12s are rated at 600W, whereas the t/s specs on the site are for the 500W. I don't know whether t/s have changed much in the new version or where they're published! Edited by darkmatter - 21 December 2007 at 11:37pm |

Hello darkmatter,
Yes the SD-12 now has a 4.5"VC and is rated at 600W... The SD-15s have a 4.5"VC and are now rated at 800w... I have found the information given at the P Audio website and by their distributors to be unreliable at best but so far it's been quite pleasant... I just recieved eight P.A. drivers and it was like opening a box of Cracker Jacks... Irregardless of what was printed on the box...there was a nice surprise inside!...

SD-12 in a Punisher has been done with good results I believe. Mircea Bartic is the man to ask...

@ceharden
Yes,...my bad... Thanks for pointing that out... Mircea is definately "the man" for any questions regarding the Punisher loaded with the SD-12...

Haha! Got the impression it might be a bit like this with P Audio
ceharden - yeah I was definitely going to ask if Mircea wouldn't mind giving some advice if I do go for sd12s. I imagine he changed rear chamber volume slightly, but I'm not too sure. I've been wondering whether it's worth tweaking the whole design very slightly, but I'm nervous about deviating from Walt's design with such limited knowledge and when all I really want is a working system in the shortest time possible!

Any chance you could fix the pics please? I'd like to see how the punisher compares to other designs...

so if you want a system that's proven to work why not just use the driver it was designed for?
