Hi guys
Just signed up after browsing the forum yesterday. I'm a mechanic by trade and have no real speaker box construction behind me other than helping to build a large box for a friends car. I'm going to be building an X1 using a 1000w max JBL 18" as the driver bearing in mind it was never meant to be the loudest thing on earth. Hopefully I will get a start on it with pictures over the weekend as I have a cut list from another romanian forum. Steve

I'll have to check as its in a box which I have not yet taken the driver out from. Anyone know how many sheets of board are required for an X1 (yes I'm being lazy

Are you talking about a car woofer? If yes, then please forget about the X1.

right, that amp... you couldn't call that a 1600w amp at all. you'll have to aim higher. according to the specs you could bridge it into a driver and give it 800w.
4Ω stereo: 2 x 500Wrms 8Ω stereo: 2 x 250Wrms 8Ω bridged: 1 x 800Wrms Max power: 1600Wmax @ 8Ω driver, until you say what it is and we can look at the specs, no one will know if it's any use or not. the X1 cab is notorious for eating unsuitable drivers. because of how the driver is loaded in the cab, it needs to have a really strong motor to survive in there making noise. you can get a pair of X1s from 3 sheets of ply. |

I'll have to get over to the lockup to get the woofer out tomorrow. I'll get some pics too.
This woofer won't be pushed hard most of the time if that makes any difference Edited by stevieg - 27 November 2013 at 11:34pm |

if it is a car woofer, you are likely to get better results from a reflex enclosure, simpler to build too...
Or sell it and buy a half decent PA driver - say a second hand fane colossus XB which sounds great in modest reflex boxes. A PA driver will likely be far more sensitive, hence giving far greater output from your amplifier which may struggle with an insensitive driver.

Car woofers are frequently designed to handle the stress of bandpass enclosures.
Let's hold off discussion until he comes up with a model number.

PA subs in cars isn't the greatest idea, besides being huge... "cabin gain" in a car will boost the low end severly!

as the intended amplifier is a mains powered rack mount unit, i doubt the application is in car audio?
