Hi, i have built some X1s loaded with 186s for sub bass now i need some higher frequency cabs for the punchy bass. I play a lot of dub, reggae, soca and r n b so i was wondering if i should build the 186 or 1850 horn loaded or hd15 loaded with 156s

hd 15 the low end and heigh end of t he usuable freq range for x1 versus 186 is only a few semitones... so id go for the hd15 much more kick... the 186 is more of a sub than a kick horn

Hi mate,
If you got Pd186 at least 4.. then build 186 horns- (140db) keep the X1 for small parties and the house. (or sell them) How many people do you cater for? indoor or outside? big halls or small? Depending on these factors then build the appropriate mid top boxes to go with 186 horns. What amps are you using? |

Thanks for your advice. Well im using a BELL amplifier from the 90s. To be honest it gives a much jucier bass than any of the modern amps, but next on my list is the big CROWN. My amp runs at 1400w RMS into 4 ohms and quite hefty too. I play in small and big halls. Never played outside and havent tried the X1s outside so dont know how they sound. Are they good for outdoor use. I know that horns and scoops are good for outdoor use. I'd cater for about 200 people. I have my midtop designs in mind. Ill post them when ive built them. Some flares loaded with fane 12s, compression horns and bullets. :) Cheers

id go for multiple 186 horns loaded with PD186's. easier to drive (one frequency band so wont need to be split) and if you progress to outside places you will have a phat sound (the X1's get seriously lost). Keep the X1's for smaller events (can swap drivers around if needed) as earlier suggested.
