My first project in wood working, and my entrance to pro sound in general. Done after work and on weekends over a 2 - 3 month period. My budget was fairly tight, and i had less than ideal space and tools to do it. I learnt a hell of a lot along the way about wood working and sound engineering, and i think this has given me a new passion.

I used 12mm MDF for the horn (because i knew i would stuff up the mitre's and angles, and couldnt afford to waste birch), 18mm MDF for the baffle, and 21mm russian birch for the outer box.

I plan to start 2 - 4 ES18-BHP's to match them very soon. I am yet to test and EQ them properly in an outdoor environment (they will be mainly used at small open-air bush parties), but they sound EXCELLENT, even with no subs and budget celestion mids (which i replace some time along the line).

Please comment. As i said i am a noobie is the pro sound/ cabinaet making thing. This forum has already given me info/tips on pretty much everything to do with PA. Truly awesome.

Thanks

I'm always impressed with what people can make with limited facilities so well done there. One question though, your handles seem pretty high for lifting, is there any particular reason for this?

Sweet.  Great first effort.  A little countersinking of screws and speakons would make them more pleasing to the eye, but they look VERY respectable just as they are.Clap

I am fairly tall (195cm) so these are quite comfortable for me to carry. I also didn't want to risk cutting into the sealed chamber. I guess I could have done them a little lower, but ahweell.

Quick question, will I need wadding in these boxes? If so, just on the back or do I fill it?

Great build Macca on a budget.

Nice build there. Blue and orange is a badass colour scheme. +1on recessing those speakons.
I'm guessing your Australia judging by your tools name and house. Where abouts are you. Was thinking of building something like this my self. Would love to hear what you've created.

Over a year on I extended this project to: http://forum.speakerplans.com/my-first-rig-2-x-mt121-4-x-es18bph_topic92444.html

I'm going to try and be more active on this forum.

How did u go with your build bitSmasher and Massive?

best place for MT* drivers is still thomann. 50GPB flat rate shipping to Australia. Anything more than 2 x 12" is classes as too magnetic for flying, so u have to get the locally.

Hey Macca,

Psytrance and DoTA2 enthusiast... my kinda guy!

Anyway, I'm in Melbourne, looking to hear these at a gig at some stage, where can I follow to know where they'll be next?

I'm not sure I'll be back on here to check religiously so if you could flick us an email at andrewmcgillbrown@gmail.com would be super keen to hear them some time and have a bit of a chat about the build process as I'm looking to slowly start putting together my own system.

Cheeeers!
