wouldn't it be better to rear vent this design so that the path length difference from horn and path is close to zero in front of the box and close to half a wavelength of 100Hz at the rear?

The reflex port will have a phase delay also, it is not just about distances.

Wow, that's pretty impressive! How does it sound at the bottom end, though, especially at high spl? Is Snowflake correct about possible phase amolalies?

For sidefills, can we have two enormous things of a type that might be venerated as Gods by the inhabitants of Easter Island, capable of reaching volumes that would make Beelzebub soil his pants.

That's an interesting and impressive modification. It will allow much better cooling of the drivers too.

In case anyone is interested, the old Martin RS800 / VRS800 / VRS1000 cabinets also had rear venting to extend the bass.
Dave Martin originally tried the concept in the early 1970's for the Sundown nightclub installations. A 215 Mk1 had a hole cut in the side to access the chamber behind the speaker, and the cabinet was sat on top of a plinth that acted as a resonator chamber, with a front port.

The idea is an old one, dating from cinema bass horns of the 1930's.

b.t.w. the speakers I mentioned are the 18 sound 15LW1400
I'm now finishing a trio of Startec's HR118, ready for paint.
Then i'll source the last bits for this F2B cab. need some 6mm ply and some fat beams for the small triangular and trapezoidal sections (or maybe stack some scrap 18mm to get the thickness for the shapes)
When finished I want to search someone with some measuring gear who wants to help and measure the response.

There was at least one F2 system in Japan in the 1990s. It belonged to N&N Sound Freaks of Tokyo. They started out with 28 F2B and 28 F2 Rack boxes with various modules fitted. I'm not sure if they added more to the system later, or if any other Japanese companies had F2.

The Martin distributor in JP was Otaritec.
