Hi guys! I'm quite new to all that DIY game so I come here to ask some help. So me and a friend plan to build folded horn subs to throw some raves here in Montreal. Most of the time, we'll play some heavy dark techno and also drum and bass so we need something that can go in the 30 hz flat. Quality is more important to us than power and i'm not scared to try new things! I see alots of 12" drivers of 2000W+ rms made for cars. I don't know if it's possible, but can we build a folded horn with 2 of theses in it, so we can have a sub of like 4000w+ on its own?

If that were possible everyone would be doing it forget car speakers unless your putting them in a car.
spend some time and have a read through the various forum posts to get some idea of which direction you want to go and see what drivers are available to you over there.

Edit: Oh by the way welcome to the forum! Big smile

Never criticise another man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Once you have, call him what you like, you're a mile away and you've got his shoes!

Thanks! :) All-right I'll forget it then. lol I was looking at something like the Super Bass Horn, but it doesn't go low enough. Do you have any recommendations on a plan that go lower? or maybe an extension would do it too?

To get 30Hz you'll either need a very, very large cabinet with a very decent driver or use several horn cabinets together.
How many people are you planning on playing to?
What's your budget as well?
Does it have to be folded horn? And if so, why?
Chas n Dave : it's like Drum and Bass but with beards.             E=mc² ±3dB

Tuba 60 can go to 25hz, not flat though... But being 30x30x60 inch with the mouth on 30x30 side might be impractical in smaller venues.

I don't think you need a horn to go down to 30hz for what you want to do. You will be surprised how low 40hz sounds, when you know what you are listening to. Listen to some 'low bass tracks' that you would normally play at these raves while looking at an RTA so you can actually see what frequency these notes are. You probably won't find much under 40hz.
When you gonna send me some $$ mate ?

About 200 to 1000 people. Money isn't going to influence greatly here and well i really like the feeling from a folded horn vs a front loaded. So it's just a preferance.

mmh i agree for dnb we don't need that low, but for techno (even more with dark techno) there's definitely some tracks that go down to 30hz.

Bertha(EAW880/882) with the add on flare. Any horn that goes to 30 Hz flat is going to be HUGE. I am still trying to sell my Bertha (one only) . VECTORSONICS
