How low does the sb121h A.S.S folded horn play down to? i know alot of 18" folded horns struggle with anything decent below 50hz, how do these play being a 21" design?

Size of driver won't make it play any lower. Has to do with the design

never said it would mykey. Im assuming if you go through the trouble of designing a box for a driver that's great at low freq ud design the box to play lower than 18" box

Sorry if that came across as rude.

No not really. It's all about shifting more air

You can play lower than an 18'' with a 6'' driver in the right design. But it isn't going to shift as much air

We luckily happened to find after a lot of digging and some good timing the opportunity to buy 8 x mx900's and 8 x mx121rt's then got 4 x bs1200s. They are certainly beauts! According to the previous owner of the reflekta cabs, they are what was taken out of London's Astoria club before it was closed.

Well now, I was only talking about this same system earlier today. Many of my formative gigs were at the Astoria from 99-04 so that system holds a lot of memories.

What are you going to do with it?

Yeah, the amount of history behind them is incredible from what I’ve read and heard. Would be rather interesting to know what year they were installed from. Read an article on how Astoria once managed to make the plaster fall off the ceiling from the noise levels was recorded at 137dB think it was a Leftfield gig in ‘96. My ears are probably appreciating being born in the wrong era right now.

At the moment we hire it out in usually smaller sizes along with lighting/production/djs etc if needed. Thankfully we’ve got a solid crew for the bigger bookings. Would be nice to get into some live work as we’re pretty embedded in the rave scene at the moment. Festival work is also on our to do list! We’ve got the full system out once but the booking was pretty quiet and the room is floor to ceiling ceramics aha. We’ve managed to get 6 pairs of sub and tops in pretty ideal conditions and once set up properly it can really melt your face off just ticking over.

We’ve found that our hogs work quite well coupled with 2 bs1200 and 2 tops for our play around party stack too.

Did you get them from the first owner post-Astoria? If so, somewhere on this forum is a picture on him stood with them when he first got them. I can remember being so incredibly jealous, but there would be absolutely no chance of me being able to play them anywhere and that would be a waste.

I might be able to help here, I'm sure Tony will be along in a bit but meantime the design (oddly) isn't a 21" design it is a 4 x 21" design, they were designed to lay two wide and stand two high so that they formed a folded horn with the mouth four times the size of each box. I hope that helps clarify. (!)
