Would normally be used with an 802C "controller" to produce low(ish) frequency farty noises. Only ever heard them used with the 802s so don't know what happens if you use then on their own with a "generic" mid-top. The 802s show their true colours when used without the 802C! I think the 802C adds a bit of an eq lift before you get down to the HPF so the 302s might sound a bit flat without it .
