cant remember ever having a problem with mine on a 13a plug although I usually only used to run at 4ohm/side

btw Im a sparky and have had to change quite a few sockets where people have drawn more than 13a through a bolt and welded the plug to the socket leaving some interesting if potentially fatal abstract art. whoever mentioned suitable breakers - 15/16a is the closest and is still only there to protect the installation, not the cable and appliance plugged into it. its more likely to be 30/32a and offer whatever youve bodged into the socket considerably less protection than youd like in an ideal world

I have one, but its for an "almost" good reason.

We occasionally have extended powercuts .. not often,  every few years it goes off for a day or so ... at which point, I throw the main breaker, and plug the generator in the shed in with a 16A BS4343-to-13A to power the freezer and a few lights.
My girlfriend thinks I'm a stalker.
Well, she's not exactly my girlfriend yet ...

Is using 16A - 13A what you are referring to as 'Widow Maker'?

We have a couple of 16A - 4 way 13A with the trailing socket containing a 13A fuse. I don't see how this is dangerous considering it is protected by 13A. Anyone using equipment should know that a 13A bar should not exceed 13A anyway... These were bought from a lighting company with PAT certification...

A widow maker is usually two 13 amp plugs, with leads paralleled into a single 32 amp ceeform socket.

It is a legal requirement (at least in UK) to notify your electricity supplier in writing before doing this.
