ok, we definately don't use anything like that! Surely that is a suicide wish!

Do people seriously try to use contraptions like that?! Shocked

Yes and its usually used by people that should know better, a little knowledge can be very dangerous.

Scary!!! People like that should really not be working in the industry!

Sorry if anyone on here does, but I feel very strongly about electrical safety... i've seen the damage it can cause first hand!

thats fine - a 16A to anything 13A must have a 13A fuse in line somewhere before the 13A rated fixture - and the cabling before the 13A fuse must be suitable for the incomer current (so 16A 2.5mm from ceeform to 4way, then the 13A 'steps down' protection into the 4way). Note that you cannot use a normal domestic unfused 4way with anything above 13A incomer!!

Also quite useful is the single duraplug style sockets where you can stick any old cable that fits with suitable ceeform to the cable size (ive squeezed 6mm into one on a 32A) and the single 13A socket will be protected by the plugs fuse. Handy for plugging in the kettle before the rest of the kits setup!

It is a legal requirement (at least in UK) to notify your electricity supplier in writing before doing this.

I'll start doing that the moment they start notifying me in advance of powercuts  ...

Does the same apply if you just dangle it around on trailing sockets? or is it only when you dis the incomer and connect it to the house wiring you are supposed to tell 'em?

One of the hazards of living out in the sticks I suppose ... one day, I'll build a proper generator shed and get a lumpy old 2 pot lister or something ... get it wired in properly.
