I've been offered a Crest CC 4000 at a decent price, but I am a bit hesitant about buying any of the newer Peavey-Crests.

Anyone have any experience with the CC range? Any good? Do they last??

Ta.

I was just about to have some coffee & a abanana but the thought of the last CC4000 I had in for repair has made me lose my appetite. Apart from that, ok

Will be useful for barbecues..

For playing sub, I would prefer Admark.

Admark AD42, is not quite as powerful as a Powersoft K20, but much nicer tone..

There's not much out there to match it for the price, used or new.

How does the CC4000, compare with that?

I don't actually need that much pure/stupid power!   Smile

I'll be driving a couple of P-Audio P-18N's - or JBL 2241's, which will happily run with around 800W-1kW of amp/channel. I usually drive these with a Crest 9200, or a CA18 copy I have, neither of which I've ever seen go anywhere near clipping. Far from it.

I've had a few smaller gigs recently, that I've been getting a friend to cover, using a 7001 to drive a couple of subs, but those are just a bit small to do the cabs justice. So I'm looking for something a bit bigger, thus the CC-4000.

There's pretty much no point, in lugging around heavy transformer amps, anymore..

When buying sub amps, buy the biggest/best you can afford.

If you can't afford Powersoft X4L, get Powersoft K20.

If you can't afford Powersoft K20, get Admark.

Haha, yes.

What the hell do I want with an X4L, or K20?? They`re totally OTT for what I need. Like I said, the Pro 9200 has served me well for years, no problem - & only around 10kg, Class H, lovely sounding amp.   Smile

I've also seen a 9200 for sale, a bit more expensive than the 4000, but also a lot better, so will most probably just go for that.

Cheers for the attention anyway!   Thumbs Up

on a serious note if you're happy with a pro9200 then I dont suppose a CC4000 will be that different, isn't it just a 9200 with a transformer power supply?

Ok, I'm not sure.

The 9200 has a fair amount more power - 1300W into 8 ohm compared to 800W for the 4000. That may be down to a better PSU, but without looking inside, who knows. Given my experience over the years with the 9200, I might just go for another & be done with it. The 9200 does have a lot more positive (online) feedback than the 4000. I can't find much about the 4000, which is why I asked here!   Smile

All the amplifiers you are eyeing is a product of Peavey. Since the CA Series bankrupt Crest due to the high amount of failure rates and, the Professional Series had their own issues that were escalating as well, Peavey redesigned both Series. The CC Series can be looked upon as the improved CA Series and, the Professional Series 9200 replaced the Professional Series 9001. The Professional Series 9200 was replaced by the Pro-LITE 7.5 which, is a Peavey IPR2 7500 with a slightly higher electrolytic value.

Best Regards,

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

The Pro 9200 is obviously made to a budget, with a single board construction, which I've seen in some other modern Peavey amps and really don't like  but like I say, so far has served me well.

The CC 4000 also makes me wonder, as it comes in at (only) 20kg, which seems light for the power it claims to produce. The CA12, for example, is 10kg heavier.

I remember the AB International Precedent Series, that were also lighter than one would expect and came with some blah about the transformer being smaller - but using larger value capacitors to make up for that. Needless to say, that didn't work!!   LOL
