I'm currently building dollies for the double 12" hornloaded mids i've been using for years.
The idea was to place them on the dollies face down, stacked in pairs. Built from 18mm birch, of which i had a full plate left, 15mm would have been sufficient though. Due to the cutouts for the rubber feet on the bottom, skids on the back, cutouts for the wheels and various lips to align the dollies to the cabs i've decided to CNC the sides and plate the wheels sit in when the dollies are stacked. Glue up of the only joint on the dolly required rebating for ease of assembly on the side panels. Boards that hold the wheels attached 2 Dollies stacked The cab on the dolly And the dolly on top of the cab, on top of which the next one will sit. ToDo: Sand, fill holes and paint.

Rounded over all the edges on the router table and painted them last weekend.
I've decided that only the bottom dollies really need wheels since they will always be used in pairs. This saves 8 wheels, weight and makes handling easier + avoids potential damages to the bottom cab if the upper dolly is placed too wild due to the wheels banging the sides. Instead, 2 dollies have 2 small plates mounted in opposing corners to lock them onto the lower dollies when stacked. Stacked pairs with a strap to keep them in place. |

Brilliant. I love wheels. I bet a lot of design work went into these.
Is it a bit tricky to lift the top cab onto the dolly that is resting on the bottom cab?
