Would say, primarily, the chamber must be tuned to the driver in terms of Vas & Qes, and the volume of the driver, must be taken into consideration.

For the the people who just want drop any old driver, in any old cab, you will pay in recones, till you get it  right, or learn how to match drivers to cabs, by T/S parms.

Can we have a new topic where people are free to advertise their own products.
Apparently there's only one relevant scoop design these days.

Response from 18 Sound

“The clearance can be very small, like one inch or even less, it will not affect the speaker performances.
Just be sure that the magnet or the metal parts are not touching the wood or the dampening material”.

if you want a larger chamber of 70 litres the rear baffle length would be 394mm as above post

do you need both throat areas of both chamber sizes?

So is the recommended size 394mm or 425mm for the rear panel if using a PD1850 or PD1852.

Original plan without mod, is fine for PD1850.

But then, IMHO, these days, an 1850 loaded Scoop, would be quite mediocre, compared to Scoop loaded with compatible, modern driver.

Hi all. I came into possession of 4 18" scoop cabs a while ago, but only recently took them out of storage to properly inspect them and take some measurements. The height and depth are 1220mm and 720mm respectively, and this along with the flat former at the bottom of the chamber indicate that they could be based on this scaled up Fane design.
However, the external width is only 590mm, which, as I understand from reading about this scaled up Fane plan on the forum, is a bit narrower than the 60 - 61cm recommended. It seems that someone has tried to make an already small chamber even smaller as the depth of the front chamber is 185mm instead of 190mm.
I haven't had chance to test them out yet, but my intention is to refurbish them and probably load them with 1852s.
What I would like to know is if these smaller dimensions would present any problems or issues that you more experienced members might know of. I'm a long time lurker of this forum but have only just made an account as I'm now looking to complete a full system and am hoping to pick some brains if that would be okay.
Cheers

There is a difference between a driver working in a Scoop, and excelling.

Personally, in this day and age, I wouldn't bother with any Scoop < 636mm wide.

Smaller width, means smaller horn mouth, and all the loss in SPL, that brings.

The days of compromising build size, to save on sheets of ply are over.
