hi there.

been reading your post and was reminded about how much hell kilomaxs gave me. they just didnt give me any proper output at all.

try and swap them for omegas or sigmas or better still look at pd.

the kilomax is so inefficient and slow that you will wish you did not build boxes for them. i did

i use pd 188's now and they are wicked. reasonable priced and very hard hitting.

you will get a lot for the kilomaxs if you aim selling them at car audio people who dont understand efficiency and just care about power ratings. ebay?

I don't know if I'm qualified, but I'm working my way threw a similar situation.  I've got some Peavey "Low Riders" I want to use and I'm too "thick" to listen to all the people telling me not to.

I'm starting to build the boxes this week.  The Hornresp charts look reasonable for the Peavey's and I plugged in the Kilomax TS and it seems to perform (although full power would have the cone jump out of the frame.  Power reduction to about 800W).

If your interested, I'll give you a copy of the rough drawing (use at your own risk).  I'm no expert, but I don't quit easy.

Jim

being even more stubborn - I might build one (in case it stinks on ice) sturdy but light Karlson  resonator box for the Kilo and let things sail  - "might " obtain some gain in kick region and somewhat better control than reflex but not get "deep" bass

K could be made in between the sizes of original 1952 plan
http://home.earthlink.net/~buddhaboy2/K15.PNG
and Gauss 5181 incarnation
http://home.earthlink.net/~buddhaboy2/GK

not sure now much extension 305l 5181 might have over ~55Hz corner for 225l  box  - need to try one in this size range

typical response with 18" in 225l K http://home.earthlink.net/~buddhaboy2/shelf.jpg

should be someone with dough lusting for those sexy sausage-grinder heatsinks

wonder how PV18 will fare?  - Q and Le are lower than kilo- got s**tload of overhang

Just took the time to plot some boxes on bassbox pro 6. The Kilomax is only suited to rather large (over 200ltr) ported boxes(as many have said before). I found a happy medium at 250litres tuned to 40hz. This design netted 127db continuous output at 800 watts(60-120hz) so long as you use it with a 35hz HPF. It won't take anywhere near it's 1250 watt maximum unless you put it in a really small box(for it at least!) and tune quite high with an equally high HPF. My 6th order bandpass use much cheaper drivers(p-audio p180/2241) and make 129db from 600 watts(same frequency limit) but only take up 200ltrs. Even eminence say it needs 250-400lts and is NOT suitable for anything else. At least if you were to run them with 'only' 800wrms,thermal compression should be well in check

Oh and as far as dimensions go,size it yourself,it's only volume that matters and brace it well(use other plans as a guide as to how to brace etc) Also make sure your port area is sufficient,I used shelf ports cause they act as convenient braces too!(one of em is 440mm long)
The FAQ section has good tips on which wood to use etc. Hope that helps

I have offered to draw some plans for the thread starter and was using a box of 300L tuned to 35 hz and using a couple of 6" dia vents. They still exceed xmax at 40 hz even with only 600 watts but with this driver everything is a compromise.

i'm using kilomax 18 in the C-sub design, driven by  electrovoice P2000 bridge 4 ohm, and the result is very nice, i'd say. at least, it doesn't seem slow to me, just a good result compared to the price of theses drivers ! i'll make some of theses box for ome PD1850, we'll talk about it again, maybe ;)

hello mate,

Just read you post-

I dont know myself as i have never had any but- I know people who have been putting kilomax's in the ev t18 design reverse folded bass bins and have had quite good results-used in multiples

There is a establisthed company in the Uk- that will sell u the t18's already loaded with kilomax's- so they must have a half decent output!!

I realy dont know-but its worth a try

Oh dear. No wonder people say its slow on a reflex box. When Qts> 0.4 things start to get bad for reflex size wise. The right basshorn is a possibility. If you want a portable box id sell this underdamped woofer.

Qts : 0.56

If you already have a bunch of these things I would consider the rear loaded horn design (scoops).

They will also work OK in a 4th order bandpass, but are only useable from about 50hz~110hz (but they will be 104dB vs 96dB for a standard vented design). The bandpass box would have to be about W30" X H30" X D35" to work right.

No the kilomax would sound crap in scoops.

I'd say the C-sub where it says you can use them as one of the drivers to choose from.
