Hey!
I have looked around for a cheap per db, lightweight, easy to build kickbin to work with my void loaded X1 subwoofers and alone. And I think planar wave horn might be the easiest way to go.. So I modelled a 15" one because the 18" plans out there don't have the kick im looking for and they are too big. It's a 56,5 liter ported to 45hz kind of horn loaded with eminence kappalite 3015LF.. Total voume is around 160L. And outer dimensions about 42x42x97cm It should work alone without subwoofer for some partys with music that don't need sub bass. Do you think this will work or did I do it wrong? Im new to hornresp and not sure if this works in reality.. Here is a picture, everything is calculated with single cabinet and 2pi, more cabinets provide more low end and flatter response to 70hz. I hope this is in the correct forum section.. ![]() Large picture: http://i60.tinypic.com/2r22og3.jpg // André

I see you are simming your kicks in halfspace. Unless you are planning to put them on the ground i would think 4 Pi gives a more realistical simulation.

Hmm I will use them on the ground.
I changed the volume to 85L and port to 50cm. Total Volume is increased to 170L.
It gave a better lower and higher end in both 4Pi and 2Pi, it will also be easier to build. Do you think 15mm birch ply is thick enough for these cabinets? 18mm is very rare and expensive here in sweden.. 85€ is the cheapest i have found so far, and they aren't very big hehe.. Yes, will do hehe
It seems to work better with other drivers too Oberton 15B450, Faital 15FH500 and kappalite 3015(non-LF) seems to give about same response but with a little less 70hz spl :)

I did some more accurate calculations on the box, It's barely any different from 85L version. 101db SPL from 70hz to 183hz, for a completely flat response down to 65hz four needs to be used, however it looks like it loose a bit kick and it starts to roll off already at 130hz. In singles: 64-188hz (-6db) 125db continous, 132db at xmech 127 continous from 70hz. In pairs of four: 45-180 (-6db) 136db continous,141db at xmech, 140 continous from 70hz But the amout of power needed to reach these sound pressure levels would probably burn the voice coils.. And remember, this is just calculated, I don't know how they sound in reality. Box size: 48*48*100cm port area: 96,53125cm2*4 (four 48/50*22,65 sheets (21,15cm in middle 19,65cm inner, 45 degrees cut) port area: 386,125cm2 Total port area(inkl wood/sheets): 513,025cm2 Horn area: 1511,75cm2 Enclosure volumes: box: 92,1375L, horn: 75,5875L, port: 19,30625L combined: 94,89375L total:187,03125L Total front area: inner dimensions: 2025cm2 outer dimensions: 2304cm2 Total volume 230400cm3 = 230,4L Cut pieces: 100*48cm(Top/bottom sheet) 100*48cm 100*45cm(left/right sheet) 100*45cm 2,5*45cm(top/bottom acess panel bracket) 2,5*45cm 2,5*40cm(left/right acess panel bracket) 2,5*40cm 45*45cm(speaker baffle) 45*45cm(acess panel) 10*45cm(box reinforcement front and inside) 10*45cm 10*45cm 10*45cm 48/50*22,65cm(port outer point-to-point, 21,15 middle/average point) 48/50*22,65cm 48/50*22,65cm 48/50*22,65cm Total sheet usage:29223,8cm2 sheet size: 15x1220x2440mm total sheet area: 29768cm2 Feel free to try it out if you want, but I think it needs more work to reach higher SPL 1w/m.. Edit: If chamber is 10cm shorter/20L less , it will have about 1db more at 70hz at the cost of some low end and more group delay at 70hz. :)
