i have a small reflex box here, dual 8"

don't think it's possible to find another driver for it. it's a nice sounding speaker, so don't want to bin it.

for a fun project with my boy i'd like to rehouse this in a new box, and get a nice gentle day of woodworking in.

i don't want to redesign anything this time.

i'm actually not sure of the relationship between number of drivers and the resulting speaker.

is it purely an efficiency / gain thing?

so were i to redesign the box, i should keep the same ports / volume?

Why do you think that finding another suitable driver would be difficult? It should not be difficult to find something suitable. Personally, I'd go for something from P-Audio, that I've found to be a very reliable - and efficient brand, but if not, there must be something from B&C - or even Eminence that would do.

for sure, i guess it's just cheaper to buy a sheet of ply than 2x drivers.

i also just fancy the project more :)

The Crossover will  act differently if it does not have the same impedance that was attached to its LF section ..this will only affect the LF but the hf might appear louder in relation to the LF . if it sounds ok to you now.. then its fine  .

Both drivers are blown? I understood just one. Another alternative would be to stick in a passive radiator. That would be the cheapest!  LOL

i mean i know nothing about the driver in there so probably would replace both if i took that route

1/2 the number of drivers requires a cabinet with roughly 1/2 the internal volume, but ports and the passive crossover will be different so some calculations need to be made there.
