Hi Guys and Gals,
Just about to get on with a the X15 MODDED build i found on the forum, http://www.speakerplans.com/FORUM/x15-mod_topic25221.html After building a few X15's and never getting around to loading/fitting crossovers i thought as the cabs are smaller and can still use the 15MB it could be worth a go. I have just stumbled over a prebuilt crossover on the net (sadly not too clued up on building my own/making L pads and such yet, but am trying to learn) and just wanted a few experts advice on the matter, Here is the link for a 1800 Hz crossover and just wanted to find out if it will cut the mustard so to say. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=294-324 I will be using the BM-D450 unless any other suggestions pop up... Thanks for any help in advance ![]() Matt Edited by buildmeabutterfly - 29 June 2009 at 6:49pm |

I still don't know how much crossover is too much crossover. I mean I hear those store bought speakers systems they sound cool.
I feel i might have to get lower frequency crossovers for my 6 units. I got Dayton 5k in 'me with some 15" + 1" drivers |

I did after found a post from yourself recommending phoining PAP in another thread. they tried the're best but the guy i got took my phone number as said he would ring me if any came in. they don't sell PAP VX1 - 2 anymore. so they said they would look for the VX1 - 2 in cabs they get for spares and such. hence my looking elseware just to have a gander.
I personally think it would be ok... i just really wanted a kind of nod as it is the lower end of the crossover spec for a 1" driver. All threads i can find say the cross over should be around 1000hz - 2500hz depending on the COMP driver, and at 1800 i think i can go with either the BM-D450, altho maybe also the SD-450 N as it seems to have a very low crossover point. If i was to go with a 1.5" - 2" COMP driver i think it's around the 1.2hz point, if this is wrong please let me know. |

I use the PAP VXM crossover in my X15s which are loaded with the BMD450 and a 9db l-pad and I am happy with it.
Apparently the B&C DE250 comp driver is a better option/upgrade though as ceharden/norty have commented on I think. Cheers, Angus |

The l-pad is easy to construct and if you look here http://www.speakerplans.com/forum/my-18-reflex-build_topic14850_page2.html you can see what I did to mount it.
9db was a figure quoted on here by Dom I think when he was building a variation on the XM15 plan from this site and seems to work OK for me. l-pad will basically attenuate the top end as the comp driver is more sensitive than the mid driver. there is a calculator for it here http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-Lpad.htm I used big heavy duty ones from CPC or Farnell. if you enter 8 ohms and 9db cut in the calc you get 4.4 and 5.16 needed. I used 2 off 2.2 ohms in series for the 4.4ohm leg and 1 off 2.2 and 1 off 3ohms for the other leg. Hope this helps mate. Edited by angus - 06 July 2009 at 2:22pm |

Found the link to CPC for the resistors. Can't remember whether I used 100W or 200W as not near cabs at the moment.
