Just bought one of these off the bay. Tried it out, seemed to be working ok, ran for about 5 minutes then smoke arose!
Anyone have any experience of working on these units? looking inside revealed a burnt resistor on one channel and a possible dodgey poly capacitor. If I replace these parts will all be well again or is it likely to have done more damage? Cheers |

Last time I repaired one of those was 1990! Anyway IIRC, one of the triacs had blown, taking a few other components and bits of the pcb tracks with it... Can't be more help than that sorry.

Yeah its old! Theres a date on one of the test stickers inside from 1985 I think it was! The resistor which has burnt up is on the power board by the chokes. Next to it is the poly capacitor which seems to have cracked. I had an old mode electronics dimmer do a similar thing a while back. Possibly because the capacitors are old?
I think the triacs are ok, I only had 2 channels connected to lights to test and it was still working when the smoke came out. I switched it off quick so hopefully I have limited the damage. |
