Loving google sketchup at the moment, loads easier to use that catia and lets you play around with ideas pretty quick.
This is a mid/top i'm working on. Based on fairly standard tried and tested horn loading configs, but the idea it to be able to make the whole cab and horns from wood using cheap easily available drivers and parts. Maybe not the quality or loudness of simmilar cabs but two a side would give enough spl and coverage for a good dancefloor. But it DIY! and i Tried to make it look good too. 60x40 dispersion. 50cm width, 75cm height 40-50cm depth (still designing it!) Low mid is a 12" reverse loaded reflex horn covering 100-450hz. I'm going to proto with a P-audio SN12MB High mid is a conical horn using the Eminence 6.5" closed back lines array driver (alpha 6 cbmr) and covers 450-2500hz High is a 1" on a eminence LT250 or fane 60x40 CD horn ![]() Ha, I get so excited designing new speaker I have to share it with you guys :) thoughts, comments, discussion... its work in progress so have a while to go yet. Lookin forward to knocking up a prototype in june Thinking of calling it the DMT :D |

yea, horn response says so - as long as i can get the driver chamber volume ( front horn chamber) small enough (around 5L for 400hz corner). There's ripple in the response but its fairly smooth 100-400hz at 106db 1w1m 2pi +-2db. The reflex gives you the extra low end you'd never normally get from such a short horn.
Fitting that driver in with the mitred panel there and getting the volumes right is the tricky bit! |

Sketchup skiiiiills there Dave. Does look very nice indeedy. You built one out in NZ then?
Ported horns can work for midtops - omnitop12s have quite a few fans (then again I am biased in this though). |

Thanks for sharing your ideas D, but I have a few questions, a)A 6.5" can cover 450-2k, but can it do this at high SPL, without going bang? Wouldnt 10" be better? b)A Number of subs perform best when crossed out about 80hz, Wouldn't 15" kick section in your cab be more compatible with this, and move more air? Is it absolutely critical for phase bung to be in contact with cone? Even if the horn allowed use with 4x different drivers, would be better than bein restricted to 1x. Not every one wants Paudio driver, or to spend big bucks on 18sound/PD. Few of us like choice of B&C, Beyma, Fane, Celestion. |
