Round 18" Grilles

   I'm thinking of putting round grilles on my 18" subs and I'm just wondering if I have to make any special consideration in which ones to get as they're very high excursion drivers. Do they even do extra deep ones?

	Had this trouble when I put some waffle grills over some Fane XBs, I used a normal grill but spaced it out with a front gasket from a dead speaker.

	Electrikal had this issue with PD1851(?) in hog scoops. One gig I was at they resorted to running them with no grilles (was fun to be able to see the cones moving though!).

	I believe on their new subs they have a wooden clamp for the grill made up that holds the grill and puts a little space between the driver and grill. I think they also had markie make up round grills for their older hogs as well with a bigger bump in them so the cones didn't touch the grill

	I don't make round grills. If the baffle is recessed deeply enough I can make a box pan grill to the full depth of the recess. Box pan is where all 4 edges of grill are folded to stand the grill off the baffle.

	Round grills are pressed on a huge machine and there's no room for one in my shed.

	It looks like they had an off the shelf grille sandwiched between two rings of wood (painted black) to get it further away from the cone, before it is clamped on.

	Here's what I don't understand. Round grills are about a fiver each for the cheap ones (that are almost made on tinfoil) or £9.00 for one made of 1.1mm steel. Then theres £3 odd for a set of standard clamps, so that's £8-12 per cabinet. Then you have to mess around with wooden rings to allow for the excursion. The above cabs have batten already fitted for a square grill to fully cover the driver. I charge £16.50 max for such a grill which is 1.5mm thick and looks (hopefully) far more professional. For an extra fiver you can even have it powder coated. Doesn't seem to make sense to be but then I am biased.
