those promotors in birmingham (sound men) are a funny lot. i remember a few years ago i bought a live session cd of iration stepper and jah voice one was in leeds & one was in manchester a jah voice started an argument on both occations the one in manchester was about iration stepper playing more music than they were supposed to have played it turned in to quite a huge argument to what i heard on the cd (was any one at this dance who can shed more light on exactly what happend) anyway i was at the session jah voice & word sound & power and jah voice acused word sound and power of playing more music than they should have (i thought oh dear here we go) i must say word sound and power never did play to much music i think jah voice made a big mistake as they were going outside when it wasn't their turn to play music so never really knew what was going on due to them not being in the hall, anyway again i went to the jah voice and makaya dance nearing the end a argument broke out again i then thought what is wrong with these guys (jah voice) that is i cant go to much into what was said but this is what i thought was very bad at near the end of the dance it was supose to be each sound playing one record each jah voice though played two records, i thought thats a bit rude considering the arguments they had previously with word sound and power and the arguments i heard on the two cds i bought, the worse part about the makaya and jah voice was the owner of jah voice after playing more records than he should have then walked over to makayas sound and told them that if they played one more record then they will never be booked again in that hall, i thought bloody hell is that how you treat people, any way again i was at the dance last night earthquake jah hammer and quwontro and quwontro played a record that earthquake had already played then the promoter ran into the hall and told them that they must not do that, my god i thought what is wrong with these guys in birmingham.

IF YOU BIRMINGHAM PROMOTERS ARE READING THIS YOU NEED TO SORT YOUR SELVES OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you cant have it both ways
peace

I was there at that Jah Voice meets WSP and believe that WSP being visitors to WAR-SALL should have played on longer or had a longer time slot.  I mean they traveled all the way from London and people like me have never seen them before so, we should be able to absorb more vibes from them they are the guests.

It's should be common courtesy of a resident sound (in this case Jah Voice) to acknowledge this.  Instead we see this 'undercover competitiveness' that is going on.

Promoters should keep out of these 'undercover competitiveness' after all they are just business men out for a quick buck.  I mean they can't ban every sound or they would go bust but I think in this case it's 'conflict of interest' .

I also believe that the 3 sounds should not of played in the arena.  Jah Hammer should of played with Earthquake only.
'Papa' Quantro being a veteran sound should of played with another veteran sound.  Someone like Quaker city.
The 'drunken master' strikes again.

HOW LONG SHOULD A SOUND SYSTEM EXIST BEFORE IT IS TERMED A VETERAN??
IF A SOUND HAS A NAME BUT DOES NOT PLAY OUT  FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT, WHAT THEN??  YOU ARE TRODDING A DANGEROUS MINEFIELD OF REASONING. TO ME ANY SOUND WHO HAS BEEN GOING MANY YEARS AND IS GETTING WORK IS TO BE COMMENDED, THAT IS SUCCESS !!  PLEASE DONT KNOCK OR PENSION OFF OUR SUCCESSFUL SOUNDS...........

I'M AFRAID THE PROMOTER/SOUNDMAN AND THEIR FRIENDS ISSUE IS THE FUTURE OF THIS BUSINESS, IF YOU CANT BREAK INTO THE 3 RING CIRCUS, MAKE YOUR OWN CIRCUS, AT LEAST YOU CAN GET TO PERFORM !!!

Did you talk to the promoter and ask why he did it, I was there and to be honest some of the thing Quontro did and said was surprising, if I was paying him I would have had a word, if it was a clash then I would understand, but is there a place in Jah music for that kind of attitude I think not, I went to listen to music not the negative panter on the mike,
Getting back to the promoter, we don't know what was said before the dance started by the promoter and what rules were put in place. So sorry mate I have to be on the promoters side he is the one who has put it together and if he feels another sound is doing something which is not to be done in the session then that sound should be told, and there was a lot that was done and said by Quontro which should not have been done. do you want to get back to the days when sound systems physically had a go at each other. but maybe you like the waring and clashing thing which can ruin a session so you can talk about it on the forum, all in all the session was well attended and enjoyable most of the time one thing that came out of the session was Jah Hamma a new sound who played well.
I would like to hear the promoter's view on what was said between him and Quantro, I saw him go over but with all the noise who knows what he said and for you to have heard what he said you must have been behind the sound playing the music or at least next to the sound.
So Mr. Promoter if you can reply I am sure Mr Massai Warrior and I would appreciate it.

I haven't checked Quantro yet, good to see them getting sessions all over. Heard they told Tubbys they'd been around for longer than him and all sorts of talk on the mic in southend.

A bit embarrassing as Tubbys said in the near 30yrs in sound he only played the originals once, under a different name and recognised none of them in the recent dance, different generation. Sounds like they play like Touch Above, where they got to?

Not sure about the clash talk, but it's not a bad thing to get more people in the dance. In truth, as was mentioned, if they dont carry so much dubs in the dance they may struggle. Music does the talking!! I'm sure their on top of it, respect to them for stepping right in there.

It sounds a bit crazy in B'ham. It's good to see so many promotions, and new sounds. But again its the music that has to do the business, to take sounds further.

It's not a promoters business to intefere with any sounds selection. All in all sounds have to have their own plans/music/agenda and to stick to it, rising above the politics. Look at history and it tells you this, fundamentally its down to the music and the message/vibes of the sound. A little note on the 'Character' talk of sounds. It is very important to have this, combined with a good sound and good music, that it was makes a successful sound. Versitilty comes with music selection.

All in all it's a good time for sounds right now, despite some of the pettyness going on. Its a time for the newer sounds to mark they're place, and to push the newer producers out there.

I don't think he was interfering with the selection of the sound just the fact that they played a tune straight after a next sound had played the same type of tune, it a roots dance not a bashment dance, don't incite be polite and play your own music has Quantro something to prove.
Back in the days that may have been the norm but we are living in the 21st century one would have hope we would have progress at least a little bit.
If Earthquake had said" played by him one and no one else had it" and he played the same tune back to prove a point then fair enough Earthquake would have put him self in a position that warranted that.
but the dance was about your own selection not some one else's lets say for instance there was a problem and a fight broke out and some one was injured ambulance and police had to come to the session is that not the responsibility of the promoter and security to use there judgment and make sure everything is done correctly.
your going to say will never happen in a roots dance but if enough is said and done who knows at the end of the day the people behind the set have feeling and disrespecting and trying to get a reaction from a next sound is not on, then picking on the other sound because you did not get a reaction from your intended adversary for me that not on, GOOD ON YOU  BUSH KEEP YOUR PROMOTION GOING IN THE RIGHT WAY.
