Sorry for the late response here, but I have been collaborating with Mr. Bee through email a bit as I had a few more questions for the build, and I have been swamped with work.
Thank you very much Mr Bee, and thank you to those of you who have taken the time to reply and share your knowledge as well! Much appreciated!
(Mr APW) I would love to see a pic or video of your last event with your 4 THAMS it does sound very impressive indeed! When I came across this website in search of building my own enclosures I had just thought that you guys were fellow audio enthusiasts like myself who share a passion for great sound, and music.. I had no idea the extent of knowledge, and experience some of you have when it comes to understanding all that goes into building an enclosure to a speakers specifications.. It is quite an impressive challenge it seems from what I have been reading. Through Mr Bee, and I's collaboration I did have the opportunity to check out his website ( Elements Audio ) and Facebook page. His work, and craftsmanship is truly second to none. You can definitely see that he has a deep passion for what he does and it reflects in his work, and builds.. It means a lot when people like yourselves, and Mr Bee can take time from your busy schedules and go out of your way to help a complete stranger. For that I salute you! ![]() I am patiently awaiting a few questions on Tony's FTH-12 plans from Mr. Bee, and in the process of getting my materials together, as certain things are not readily available in the states, (certain drivers, PLY wood sizes, and materials ect).. that I may need to find equivalent substitutions for. I know this all plays an important role in the outcome of the build, so I want to be certain that all is in order before I begin. I will be glad to share my build pics and progress, and I am sure I will have more questions as I go.. I do hope my pictures are "speaker porn worthy" Hah! (love the reference BTW) Thank you all again, and I look forward to any and all feedback, and responses... Have a great day... |

(going to post this in another section as well as to build up my 10 posts so I can post build pics)
Hi guys.. Having some trouble finding the answers to a few questions.... First I am torn between building Tony Wilkes FTH-12 and the THAM-12 for a few reasons that I am trying to clear up. 1ST.. I am making sure that this will be the proper build for my needs.. I DJ and I want to be able to travel with these subs in my car so I would like to stay with one of the two 12" enclosure builds. I also play guitar in a band and we tune low. To a low C on some songs and others drop D, so my concerns are that if I wanted to mic up will these be capable of hitting the lows from the bass guitar.>? Secondly.. The reccomended driver for FTH 12 IS THE "FaitalPRO 12HP1020 12" Neodymium Professional Woofer 8 Ohm" and I really don't want to shell out $349 dollars a piece on these right now. Tony origionally started the build with the "Celestion FTR12-4080HDX 12" Professional Cast Frame Speaker 1000W" before a falling out with Celestion, and then changed the build to adjust accordingly for the FaitalPro. (From what I have gathered he has changed the size a bit to compensate as well for this driver) Now I am very curious..... Everyone is saying that both the FTH 12 and the THAM 12 are very similar but the FTH 12 from what I have read can hit lower frequencies... This is what is drawing me to this build over the THAM 12. Also I want to help keep Tony's memory alive as I am sure everyone will be asking about these little subs, and I would like to pay it back to him as well as Mr BEE for his help.. Also curious about this... Seeing as there are many trials with different speakers for the THAM 12, and only 2 that I have found for the FTH-12.. Now... Being that they are so similar will the THAM 12 speaker reccomendations work equally as well in the FTH12? I am unsure how precise these speakers have to be to fully utilize these enclousures so forgive me if I seem like I am over complicating myself here... I just want to do this once and do it right. This is what is mainly holding me back on the build right now.. Some of the options for suggested woofers are just not available in the states.. Heres what I have to work with here ... Tony's Origional build speaker Celestion FTR12-4080HDX 12" Professional Cast Frame Speaker 1000W (THIS is available for $199) @ parts express Product Specifications Nominal Diameter12"Power Handling (RMS)1,000 Watts Power Handling (max)2000 WattsImpedance8 ohms Frequency Response47 to 3,000 HzSensitivity93 dB 2.83V/1m Voice Coil Diameter4"Magnet Weight110 oz. Here are the speakers that are readily available to me in the states that are suggested for the THAM 12 plans.. I will be powering 2 of these with a Crown CE4000 power amp The Crown CE4000 Power Amp delivers 1,400W per channel @ 2 ohms, 1,200W @ 4 ohms, and 600W @ 8 ohms, 2,800W @ 4 ohms bridgd mono, 2,400W @ 8 ohms. So I would like to utilize this amps power as well as possible, as well as not fry it... Would it be best to run dual 4ohm speakers @ a 2ohm load? I am reading that this particular amp runs very cool at a stable 2ohm load. Forgot to add... If a box is tuned to 45hz or 50hz will putting a speaker in it forsay an "
Eminence Kappalite 3012LF-4 High Power Neo 12" Subwoofer 4 Ohm low frequency driver" "Frequency Response 41 to 2,000 HzSensitivity92.9 dB 1W/1m Drop the over all tuning or does the box tuning keep the frequency stable? Inquiring minds want to know.....
