i'm thinking that the driver sims thread is going to get a little out of hand however i believe it's going to be best to have as many drivers as possible in there if only to stop the 'is this driver suitable?' threads what we need then is a top 5 suggest some criteria for me to start whittling them down obviously i'll be simulating them again with full power to check cone excursion etc but there's far too many to do them all i'm thinking 4" voice coil high power rating (>500W) high sensitivity (>98dB) large Xmax (>7mm) high EBP (>150) i figure the actual power rating is largely unimportant it's more about the output at Xmax i'm just wanting to weed out some that blatently aren't contenders (i'll post the power required to reach Xmax in the results) anything else or do you disagree with my starting figures?

I think Power >=500w or you'll omit some classics (PD154?) How about including some good drivers for those not chucking loads of power at em too. But yeah, a top 5 would be cool, although it'll be subjective as some have very high peaks around 100hz but poor response curves so someone'll have to decide what characteristics are more desirable e.g. one with a high peak and fast rolloff would be fine with subs underneath but one with a flatter response with slower rolloff/lower response would be better with just HD15's |
