yeah sorry should of been clearer. I'l be running pd 1850's in 1850 cabs. It's always been my understanding that I need to power bass with 1.5 x the rms rating so I'm thinking I'll need to feed each driver with 1500w

I have always found bigger amps work better, plenty of power for those transients without clipping. Just remember not to get greedy, If you start pushing an amp that is already twice the RMS power of the speaker into clipping it won’t be long before the driver suffers thermal melt down. I plan on running my 4 Looney’s 2 aside off a Macro Tech 9000i, which should be able to produce a 3.5k burst per channel, although I must say I will be doing some research into how to use the limiters in this amp to keep my speakers safe.
