+1 for Tom Odell. Great sound, really good set.

What was the line array in the john peel? i thought the sound was pretty consistent in there when i was in.

[Croak]..

Glastonbury,  the premier event in the music and performing arts, be there or be square.

Stones from just in front of the mix position were totally radio rental. 100k plus people singing along at the top of their voices was seriously uplifting.

"You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, well you might find you get what you need... "

Audio quality over the whole site was pretty deplorable with a few purple green or blue exceptions most places sounded low bit rate mp3.   The stage with the waterfall had some fat bass lines.

Unbelievable amount of gratuitous cellulite wobbling around.

Shout out to BM's Jody, Tom + Dan from Production Hire.

certainly true for a lot of the bigger stages i must say - especially the stones, i had to leave after three songs. Sounded like a mobile phone playing it on a bus!

Even with them being etched into my primary neural pathways (Hyde park 1969 at the age of 14) the Stones set was pretty hard to engage with.

Walking down from the top, the first thing to overcome was the time lag on the video screens, it made it all seem like gibberish.

Then the audio was so poor it was hard to tell who was playing which lick on which guitar.

It was only having forced ones way round the mix booth where you could get eye to eye with the band that it came together.

Even then it seemed pretty flat till midway through when the vibe picked up a bit and really tbh, it was only on the way back to camp that I found myself totally buzzing, playing air guitar and leaping around to the tunes still reverberating round in my head.

Still am so it must have been good :)

Now that's more like it, what was on this stage

Was a Funktion One Res 5 / 221 system I will upload a pic in a sec of it :)

30 x Res 5 and 18 x 221's forming the outer 6 stacks, 6 x Res 4 hung from the structures legs as delays with 6 x 218 below. 4 x res2 sh and 2 x AX88 as outfills, then 4 stacks of D&B C on the fire tornado and lords of lightning.

I had ambisonics set up across the outer 6 stacks and the system was sounding great in the sound field, however the crowd was much larger than expected and the noise control team were the most 'on it' i have ever experienced.

avalon [lucy rose], really nice sound, noticed the house lampie was pretty spot on with the cues etc, generally a nice little venue

Will Thomas (Coldcut, Bonobo, Seasick Steve, etc) or J.C. (Laura Marling) on lighting duties in Avalon, two of my favourite people in the entire world. I spent a fair bit of time in their FOH, as sofa and fridge, gin and tonic, good friends and conversation were the order of the day

Was nice to meet you Ben, it's such a shame you were so heavily limited.

arcadia had so much potential, but seems a victim of its own success, i remember years ago with the large stage that actually had a band stage in the middle too, still had the flames, lots more smoke, enough volume to stop you having a casual conversation with the person next to you, tesla people were on the stage itself etc etc. Not to mention the music being way better in days gone by!!

I didn't like this year, it all seemed smaller, with far too many people [most of which were there stand still making videos for youtube/facebook], and having the lightning show and flame show in separate areas killed the atmosphere.

Biggest letdown overall was the general site limits, very few stages on site were at what i call an acceptable party volume [spirit 71, glade lounge, inside john peel, avalon, were the few consistent ones].

I just can't get into gigs unless the sound is suitably loud, which rules out most the main stages Thumbs Down.

sorry Arcadia, but i liked the old you when all the yuppies had gone home/to bed.

I thought the sound on Arcadia was perfectly loud enough when I went to watch Andy C. I'm more interested in detail than quantity myself these days.
