Hardly accommodated for the amount people that tried to get there though when a daft punk rumor went about. That being said half the crowd disappeared when chase and status turned up LOL

I see your point but I see it as a if your not in the circle your going to get shit sound. So get in the circle. I do think they should have made the circle bigger but that's not the sound systems fault.

I was a bit amazed how people were still expecting daft punk! It had wrote on the side of Arcadia "Fat Boy Slim" Chase & Status" in massive capitals letters projected on.

Nice to meet you too James, hope Hyde Park is treating you well! The problems came when we had mcs on stage, it's the vocals that carry and where the mcs monitor off the 'rig' there is no option to just turn up their monitors!

I won't comment too much on what you're saying Pat, but get to boomtown if you can to see Arcadia how it's intended ;)

Unfortunately the soundfield won't work if it is any bigger. There is talk of running 3 hexagons coming from each leg at some point in the future.

pyramid was total shit, could hear the crowd over the rig 90% of the time unless you got a gust of wind in your direction. spirit of 71 and Gstage were both consistent in good sound, nice atmosphere, and enough room to hold your pint.. unlike most of silver hayse, Wow! was utter shite considering the rig and line-up over the weekend, too many gurned up uni lads grinding eachother..
i spent most of my time there above the railway line Bez' Acid House was a favourite, rig wasn't amazing (NCA) but sounded balanced and the music was good (most of the time) and not too packed.

Does anyone know what rig they were using for The Park stage? saw a few amazing acts there Buttons was incredible and the rig was singing full tilt, pretty sure it was Martin, something point source.. put out amazing crystal clear mids/tops and super tight punchy bass, was incrediblyloud for 6/bins and 6/8 tops a side.
Gwarn me some of dis.

i would love to do boomtown, but unfortunately the various contractors i work for have nothing to do with it so i have no paid way in [and i never intend to buy a ticket for an event, just seems wrong to me!]!

does look good though, and sorry i didn't mean to slate you guys, all the potential is there, not your fault - could just use a better location with more volume and more space. And possibly give the crane op's a beer tap each, poor lads were up there for hours every night, probably with scorched back hair!

Hopefully the production manager will approve MLA for the main stages next year. That way they it could hopefully be a bit louder if your in the crowd, and quieter outside so as not to be affected by the limits so much.

think the pyramid stage is beyond help, you maybe able to channel the sounds direction, but ultimately it will go somewhere, and that somewhere is straight down the valley towards the minority of moaning c##ts in Pylle [and beyond]. Might be no bleed onsite, but that noise is still traveling offsite regardless of how many £millions of tech you threw at it, short of having cancellation stacks out at the far reaches of the arena itself.

Personally i think the best year was with the FK1 point source, but that suffered heavily from noise complaints on the windless sunday when sound was traveling everywhere miles and the whole site was crippled.

http://www.funktion-one.com/dl/files/1602.pdf is a white paper written by Tony Andrews and John Newsham and contains lots of information gathered from their experiments with ambisonics, it's well worth a read alongside the Haas Effect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precedence_effect.

They found that in circles with a diameter greater than 50m when ambisonic panning if you were close to one stack you would get the impression of the speakers switching on and off, not the sound moving around the soundfield.

There are other considerations when just playing stereo program music as well, as the distance between stacks increases the delay of the different speakers becomes greater and your brain begins to recognise the opposite stack as an echo, not a single sound. This same delay effects the amount of cancellation achieved outside the sound field.

Boomtown is supposedly the same FK1 on main stages as last year, hopefully they do a better job this time Ermm. (Aside from (Audio X? Res 9s + 21s) the DnB tent)

Anyway, I digress. Have heard praise for the smaller stages at Glasto, not so good for the larger. (And the crowds were more 'impenetrable' than ever !)

Eavis should send em off on a cruise for a week, and then turn it up so loud it knocks their garden gnomes over LOL
