Although this thread is about a year old. I can tell you that 2 G SUBS and single 15's are awesome. I ran them with Mackie 1400i's and they rocked up to about 400 people indoors. I put pole mounts into the top of the G SUBS to put 18" poles between the 15's and the 18's. Good way to start.

Make the soundman mad and I WILL press the suck button for your band.

I can do 300 people corporate jobs with 100+ on dancefloor with a single x1 a side and a single 12" cab a side. 750wpc on bass 350-400 for tops(not run very hard anyway)

You can cover hundreds of people with very little but it depends on how loud you want the whole area. Otherwise just pound the dancefloor only :)

Not really, the single 12" cab can be run fullrange at 200wrms down to 45hz(love sn12mbs Hug)

They are flat to 60(the box is not a small design) so crossed at 80 are capable of filling in nicely. I'm not talking d&b here, this is corporate top 40 cheese type music and sound fine(mid to subs delayed accordingly) and I am not doing massive spl.

Just saying really that if you only need to cover a small area at high spl(dancefloor only) then you don't need mega systems to do it. If you need to fill the whole venue, then yeah you'd need the 8 cab system :)

Oh and on that point, I actually will be transforming the boxes to compact reflex at some stage, the are lovely for r&b etc but have the classic slowish 6th order response...Wink

Old thread but I'm too looking at building some G subs. Looking at doing small gigs 150-200 people first with 1 Gsub a side then moving upto 2 a side and doing outdoor events of a similar scale.

Tried and tested way to go.  You don't necessarily have to stick with GSubs and X12's.  Both designs have scope to be customised and refined.
