Figured I might as well make my own thread instead of hijacking someone elses'...
Anyway... after I'm done building my 2nd hog, I'll be looking at a kick bin to throw on top of them. The hogs will be loaded with RCF L18P300's and I'm expecting them to singgggg when it comes to dubstep and dnb. But I spin just as much electro/tech house aswell, so I am really looking for some SERIOUS kick. I'm looking for a super tight, REALLY hard punchy feel...like I'm being shot in the chest with a 12 gauge every time the kick drum hits...:p I've always loved setups with this type of severe kick and am looking for something to satisfy my fetish ![]() Plans I've been looking at are the ES18-BPH (2x) and the USB... But im wondering if the use of 18" woofers play too low for the kind of kick im looking for? Also, I'm trying to stick with a dual driver bin and Void/PD is out of the question as I live in the states. Any suggestions for plans/drivers to load them with? I'm open to any and all suggestions, and thank you for reading :) Edited by asaa00 - 08 May 2008 at 9:30pm |

I was looking at the 215 but I was under the impression the USB/ES18-BPH sounds better and plays in the same frequency range....
Would the 215's be punchier? I apologize for the newbish ness.... The hogs are my first build. |

USB has 2x18s, and has enough kick to decapitate. Oh, and it works witb B&C drivers (18PZB100, 18PS100), which I think you can get in the states ? ![]() |

Theory says that the HD15 should be a bit punchier by virtue of its less cone mass, but at the same time it moves less air so you will feel the effects less.
I own HD's and they are kicky with PD154 in, but as i haven't heard the USB or ES18 I can't comment on comparison.
Look at the driver sims in the HD15 section for a driver that is available to you and has the right shape curve.

Great! Thanks! BTW, have you heard the USB/ES18-BPH/Turbosound 718? If so, how does that selenium bin compare? |

errr, hmm have heard es18 a long time ago, have heard the hd too, difference realy is ones a horn and ones a band pass horn. the horn will probably have more transient response and be clearer, also band pass limits operating bandwidth, ie it has a band pass filter effect. so the horn should play heigher too, and its straighter! down side is it dont play as low so not much use on its own to be fair. its quite a bit bigger and heavier and its just a bit less practical. but hey thats how I like it to be honest!

Maybe you're thinking of a different ES18BPH, its most definately a bandpass horn (BPH), as is the HD15.

+1
having heard both HD's & ES18's i would say the HD is the winner if it comes down to size but the ES18 is the winner for overall SPL & kick.
