led replacment bulb for 24v 250 mr16

my jags and panthers are fine after an hour or so at room temp, and they live in the cold in the winter.

Im trying to rig up an LED set up to replace the standard lamp, but doing so means having to add to the optics. still playing at the mo but an old martin dj sweeper will be sorted in a week or so. looking forward to real world test, but it is only 100w lamp as standard so with a whiter  led it is achievable.

Sorry,  a damp transformer wont have any bearing on the lamp whatsoever - if it does not take the RCD out, then no bother. Not a lot to go wrong with a transformer, and unless it is swimming in water, it will be just fine.

What make laps are you using? If you are using reputable brands ( osram / GE / Philips), then there should be no problem if the unit has been given sufficient time to reach room temperature, and the unit id dry inside.

you could check the lamp voltage, A1 series lamps are sensitive to overvoltage. Also check your lamp holder - dirty lamp holder contacts quickly cause arcing and heating, which quickly kills the lamp. If the pins on the bad lamps are anything other than clean, there is your problem.

On the LED front, yes there are chips out there which are bright enough to replace a A1/259 lamp, but you would also need to build some optics to collect the light and collimate it in a similar way to the reflector found on the A1/259. With out this, you wont focus correctly on the optical gate ( where the gobo / colour wheel meets the light beam), and the result will be dull and likely unfocused.

probably not a financially viable option, now that there are some reasonable led sourced dj effects with "gobo" optics coming through.

 LED scans and gobo flowers are the easier and currently cheaper option. My sweeper project was only viable due to the right sort of odds and ends I had kicking around, otherwise I would of been looking at around £40-45 a side plus my time for making up and fitting.
