So that i stop polluting other threads i thought i would start this one,

Whats the opinion on "Shortmans mini scoop"?

To my eyes it is clearly a reflex with a long port. But alot of people disagree, why is that?

Obviously i havent seen the inside of one but im sure the port doesnt expand significantly, and the mouth is so small that it couldnt possibly be acting as a horn at low frequencys.

Looking at this, id say that the port is roughly 21/22" by 13/14"
So thats about 1925cm2

A circle of the same area would have a diameter of 49.5cm

the mouth is small where 2pi/wavelength*mouthsize < 1

Lets try it with 100Hz or 343cm:
 3.141 x 2 / 343 x 49.5 = 0.9065 = smaller than 1 = Mouth is too small to produce 100Hz = A PORT!

So that's why the V18-1200 likes it...

So are you saying that 1/2 a 18'' reflex (g-sub) should sound the same as one of Shortman's Mini's ?

Maybe because they sound good especially for the reggae music lovers ? But not liked by the guys who prefer fast attack style bass-lines ?
