Ian.I know, the waiting is killing me. I only need one more pair to complete the HF arrays for the big system.

Lead shot wouldn't do the aluminium any harm.

There is a thick bitumen type coating on the external surfaces of these under the paint,to deaden the ring,so i would be wary of using any harsh blasting technique.

Could be very useful, one of my other 2345s has a corner snapped off and they will all need stripping and respraying in a few weeks.

I was only thinking doing the inside of the horn as an easy and neat way of getting rid of the paint Fortunately, with the nozzle, the can put the shot where ever you want it, as it's very directional.

I bet with a bit of time and effort you could make quite a striking HiFi install with those if you re-housed them creatively

I was thinking of having a bid on these just for the horns, I'm having a living room renovation which includes DIY of a brand new 5.1 HiFi system and these could be nice for the top end of the front cabs with a bit of restoration.
Would I be stepping on anyone else toes if I bid? Seems little point in driving another forum members price up.

Well I have my eyes on them to complete the top end of my ASS concert stacks. It has been easier to find the JBL Ali horns rather than the original ASS fibreglass. Now I do have four almost identical fibre glass horns with one inch screw on throats. They are ok but really need a couple of hours TLC but are free to a good home if thats any good to you. By the way, its bloody good of you to ask but much as i want these JBLs they are up for auction and try as I might I just can't see me as being any more entitled to them than you .

Well I only fancied them as a curiosity and a future project, so I won't get in your way! I'll give you a shout when the house DIY is finished perhaps and I've moved onto what sort of system to build for it! Some big horns carefully restored might be a nice visual touch. I know a chap who's not too bad at automotive spraying that might be able to make them look pretty if I sorted the finish out.

Yes sir they will. It is hard enough finding the bass and the lower mid cabs but finding the ASS fibre glass horns and the acoustic lens is just a stupid idea. So in my case I have turned to the JBL "originals" and now have the 2395 lenses, 2350 two inch radials and now two pairs of the 2345 one inch radials. Job done! Am also running a different project to Ian (JBL Man) as he is passionate about keeping vintage gear authentic and with drivers of the correct period where possible. In this case the whole lot will be fitted with modern drivers, either B&C or BMS depending on the cab and we should be able to blow anybody away with it . Have been very lucky to have had a lot of help and advice from Ian, Tony ASS and several others on here, all cabs have been/will be refurbished by Tony himself. That's the first pair of stacks complete, now need to get cracking on the elements missing from the second pair. If only I could find another pair of the 212 lower mid cabs it would make my year!

Well done Lee,£100 a pair is about what they are worth, that's what i paid for my 2345's ten years ago, quite easy to restore, just gave them a good wire brush to remove the loose paint, and then used acrylic car aerosols to paint them.

Wow, I'm sure they look fantastic now Tony has refurbished them. I love the look of the concert series system. Maybe one day I'll get to own one or a martin modular rig. I do think the JBL lenses have a great visual impact, there a cracking looking piece of kit. Yes, there's always be pro's/con's keeping some vintage/classic completely original. But as you say, I bet these cabs really do go some with some nice quality modern drivers.
If you ever bring the system out for a run in our local county, would love to come along and have a listen. I'd even help you carry them in
And if I ever see a pair of 212's for sale, I'm sure we will all let you know.

Thank you sir. Will hang on to those others in case you decide you want them. Yes there was one other party inolved it seems but I valued them just highly enough. Was hoping to pay £100 as it happens so no complaints here.

I just got my car MOT/service bill of £600 anyway, so fairly pleased I didn't wax £100 on a future project just before
If you could pm me some links with pics of what else you have that would be great! If they look useful I'll send you some beer tokens for them. If nothing else they will be a fun experiment.
