Don't worry about the diversions on my account, it's easy to pull to one side. As long as we're talking about Speakers, that's all that matters. In fact some of what has been spoken about only makes a better case for what us ordinary Mortals do. As mentioned somewhere above, people have bought into Line Array because of Market Forces, not because they think the systems are the best thing since Sliced Bread. Once people have committed themselves to it, most will be inclined to back their own corner and try to justify their investment. As said earlier, I think Line Array has some really good advantages over conventional systems when it comes to production, but I think the Jury will always be out when it comes to sound.

I once asked one of our local manufacturers, during a tour round the factory, what the difference was between Point Source and Line Array. The answer that I was given centered on the ratio of 3 to 1. They pointed to the one top/mid box on one palate, and then to the three boxes on another palate. Both covered the same frequencies, angle of coverage etc, but there was a price difference of three times between the one box ( point source), and the three boxes ( part of the line array ). I was lead to believe that it was purely good business to sell customers three boxes, instead of the one( where only one was really all that was needed ) ! No mention of sound quality, though.

I've always favoured the jnrs over te full rx18 scoop. heard the full rx18 with PD1850s 1600w celestions, turbomax 1200i and still prefer the JNR. even though the times I've heard them they have not been processed with/how I would of liked or powered by the amps would of liked. and were BnC loaded which those that know me know I'm a PD man. would still love to play some, need to get in tonys good books and twist his arm into letting me play 4 of his in GP on my amps and processing :D

Anyone is welcome to try these cabs as with the rest of the system. I've got it pretty finely tuned now so I'm happy with it as a workable system at last, especially after having done a years worth of gigs.
These cabs respond even lower now due to the DBX120A unit.

I worked for MEH back in the 70's, indeed I was on the Deep Purple American tour in 76 where we used a system similar to the bottom of those two pictures.
We ran it either as a 4 or 5 way system, the big bass horns being an additional super-bass frequency
