The lower half of the compression driver is a 5"cone, it's probably the same on other makes of co-axil drivers.

Great, you utilized a 5inch coaxial cone driver like tom did in his SM-60, though yours drives a smaller horn.
The more details we get, the more I like your new stuff!

I just like the idea of not having to try and force the hi end out of a 12. These drivers are very smooth. The whole system is Neo, and I'm glad I can justify using these bits without compromise on performance. The 12's are bass mid speakers which make the lower part of the mid warmer than out of a dedicated mid. I probably took as long in thinking about the components as I did building the system.

Are frequency intermodulation distortions such as the doppler effect the reason why you don't want to force the hi end out of front loaded 12" drivers? How low do you go with the 2x12? Would it be possible to leave the 15inch kick section?

pfly, you didn't notice that the 2" driver is in reality a 5inch cone driver with a 1" compression driver mounted in the center...

I did notice, but I usually refer to compression driver throat sizes. Tongue

Cool, I just wanted to let you know so you don't miss a thing... Big smile

edit:
I just noticed after a bit of research that I didn't recognized that we are talking about a closed compression driver system consisting of a 5" cone with a 2" voice coil firing thu a 2" throat, not like the one without a compression chamber in front and no sealed back chamber...

The speaker used is the B and C 15NW76. It will go into the mid at around 120hz. In the next day or so I will be time aligning the system, and then I will tweak the settings until I'm happy.
As always with my systems, the Sub is overlapped with the bass. So the Sub will probably go to 80 or90 and the bass cab will come at at 50hz
The speaker handles 600 watts and is 100.5db sensitivity, without the horn in front. It will be enough over the two subs. I chose this particular speaker because the 3" coil will make it faster than a 4" and the response will be sharper. My biggest fear was that it wouldn't be as good as the old BS500, but it exceeds it by a small margin, so I'm happy with that.
All the components used in the system are standard off the shelf speakers, so spares won't be a problem and they won't cost an arm and a leg like some with special badges on.

Here's a little more info. The pics show that the backs are flush. another pic shows the brackets that hold the horn in place. These are aluminum. The usual socket plate with 8 and 4 way connectors and the adjustable angle cabs that I started with when designing the 2x12 mid section. I made these to discover whether or not there was an optimum angle for two speakers together regarding phase. I discovered that from flat, round to quite an acute angle, didn't make any difference in response. From that I assumed I could then pick my own angle that would suit the mechanics of the box.
