Aren't the V18-1000's ment as an cheap 1850 clone? Making 'em a bit short on the look but OK performance wise.

the basket on the v1000 looks like a jbl copy. i have seen several drivers, usually copies of the jbl 2241 from china using this basket. drivers from soundking and rcl spring to mind.

so, my guess is that the v1000 could come from the same source. ie a void design built to their spec in china. i might well be wrong, but that is what i suspect.

Well all i see is speculation from you guys, the v18-1000 has proven its self time and time again in numerous designs, it is an a class driver and is quite astonishing what it can do in certain cabinets. If you offered me 4 pd1850s or 4 v18-1000, id accept the 4 pd 1850s sell them and buy 5 v18-1000's.

As a heavy PD user, got to say these v18-1000's are one of the wickedest drivers I've ever come across in all my years of sound system business!

Like I said in another thread, just because a product is Made in china, doesnt automatically make it crap.

From what I understand, thats where Qsc, Crest amps are now made, and you dont hear people slanging those of  because they are made there.

What matters, is the quality of components used in the manufacture.

The V18-1000 performs excellently in more cabs than the PD1850.

Some people say they blow more in X1's than 1850s, and some say they prefer it to the 1850. All down to individual preference and budget.

But the fact of the matter is, there is a shortage of both, where as the mighty Turbomax, the don of 18" drivers, is freely available. Wink

The parameters of the V18-1000 look exceptional to me and nobody has ever had a single negative coment to say about them (that I have read on here).

I have not used them but they model to the same standard as pd1850 (arguably better) and are cheaper.

I think the argument would be Lev is that companys shift their manufacturing overseas to keep the costs down but don't reflect that in Europe or the UK, they still charge an arm and a leg for them

thats why Mr Dyson flys over the tps of your heads in his helicopter laughing at the british government

I came here for that reason, costs in the UK are stupid, but as you can tell, my prices are still lower when sold in the UK

where do you guys think JBL have been making their drivers for years? China me old China

if Rog was making drivers in the UK, and selling them for what he sells them at, he would be broke pretty soon

Yep I know T&T, they are Shanghi based. Not a bad product, but i've always managed to blow all there stuff up. I'm not sure the coils are up to much.

Void sources the chassis and magnet for the V18-1000 from China, they are pretty generic parts and I know of at least another 4 companies here using the same chassis and magnet. But thats where the similarities end. We wind our own coils so I know its good stuff and there is no way they can get a Muller cone into China and use it in a product with a street price of 150 to 200 USD. The glues used will probably be crap as I've never seen a Chinese glue that can hold anything together for more that 10 mins. Again to import western quality glue would bring the cost up a lot. The way the lead in wires are designed and fabricated also has a lot to do with reliabilty too. I'm not sure that some 18 year old on coral draw really knows whats needed when it come to designing super reliable lead in wires.

So no, not a copy, its just using a lot of the same parts as I do for the V18-1000. Its the coil, cone and suspension that make a good woofer and I know they are not using the same as me as they are not buying parts from me.

I lead my life so that by the end of each day I’ve created a work of art

Bass matters...

Thomann told me Prolines were made in Germany. Actually made in China, but still very good product.

There's a lot of that these days.Wink
