Without a doubt, the Ap series Power Amps are very reliable and durable with straight forward analog circuitry. However, here in trinidad the semiconductor market has lost its way totally in inferior chinese replacement parts and compounded by the nonavailability of precision specialized parts making proper restoration impossible. I have one ap 6040 that i purchased broken with the inention to restore as a project but have not done so in consequence of the above . Customer support also leaves much to be desired. and finally, the general cost of yorkville amps.
To replace the two circuit boards Yorkville charging $900 us . I can buy a used PL 6.0 , B stock crest CC5500, Peavey cs 4080 , crown ma3600 , .

Yorkville stuff built like brick toilets and very comprehensive service manuals.
In the uk they are sold under the HK Audio brand which is distributed by John Hornby Skewes. |

If the yorkville amps are only available in the uk under an HK badge how come a few yorkville badged amps crop up on the second hand market ? Are these imported by individuals? I've thought about importing a couple from the states but get them converted to 240v once here as I'm told the transformers have dual tapped transformer so the primary side to 240 instead of 110 would be a simple procedure I just want an AP6040 and another 2020 if I can get them

If you do that get the fans checked, if they are DC, you are fine, but if they are AC powered, swap them, a US AC will will run slower in the UK (60Hz vs 50Hz) and may not be able to cool the amp properly...

If you want to import themn you'd be better getting them from a european source as they'll be the correct voltage and there wont be a hefty import duty. I'm pretty sure they use DC variable speed fans...they're not that backward! According to Yorkville there's a trade distributor in Le Bourget France called Major Audio.
And I didnt say they were ONLY available as HK in the UK..any dealer is free to import stuff from wherever they want. My post was 5 years ago and I don't even know if HK still use Yorkville. edit: just checked with HK and yes they still do them, called the VX series. ![]() Edited by kedwardsleisure - 09 January 2016 at 12:01pm |

Those AP / VX are a bit of a tight packed amp but the quality is fantastic. Shame they arent a more popular brand here as I'm sure they'd be appreciated |
